So I did this for van, Eddy, and xaelar, who were in IRC earlier today and I figured I would extend the favor to the other active highscorers. I have to do this manually so I can't give out a program for this, but hopefully Eru will be able to work a function for this in to nhigh soon enough.

What I did was compare their scores on each level with the current 0th to find their most improvable levels.

Huge ups! Any chance of getting a list for me that is in separate columns in like an excel worksheet or something? Or at the very least, sorted in descending order? Thanks again for this. It'll be very helpful. A similar one for episodes would also be amazing.

This week had everything from BIG time saving innovations to one-frame-ups-man-ship. An absurd 15 level 0ths and 2 episode 0ths were taken this week. Many of them were fiercely battled over. The community was able to increase the total level score by 6.800 seconds and the total episode score by 20.900 seconds.

Lets begin this week with the small time savers and work our way forward.

On 67-1, a level that Eddy was able to take the 0th from xaelar by a frame. Not an easy frame by any stretch of the imagination though. This is a very tight frame war map, but Eddy's 0th certainly shows that kryX, now only 3 frames away is certainly beatable. Who has the balls to do it?

On 82-2 vankusss was only looking to tie Lim, but ended up squeezing out an extra frame and kept the 0th all to himself. This map had an even tighter spread than 67-1, with only 5 frames separating 0th and 19th, until van came along and made it a 6 frame spread.

Eddy took 70-3 and 72-1 together and both by 2 frames. On 70-3, Eddy was able to pull off van's extremely hard WJ innovation and use it to beat him out by 2 frames. On 72-1 Eddy was simply able to outdo the mad German and bump the 0th up to the next second and a nice even score.

The next biggest time saver was 5 frames on 62-4 by Eddy. Eddy was tied with ska all the way up until the jump from the left wall in to the middle gold and this is where he put some distance between the two; clinching the 0th.

On 16-3, Glib_Jase was able to beat Hendor to the door by 4 frames, but then soon after improved his lead to 6 frames. He was able to get those 6 frames progressively through out the run. At every pivotal point, Glib gained a frame or two on Hendor ending with six more. This 0th put Glib at 4 0ths and tied with 20th, on the brink of entering the 0th rankings.

On 80-2, vankusss took down xaelar's naem beating run by seven frames, no small feat. Vankusss innovated the first gold collection with and easier route and after "figuring out" the gold in the gap next to the floorgaurd he remained tied with xaelar up until the exit switch. At this point, van took the ballsy route and went for a full jump - barely clipping the switch and getting into the chimney faster. This is where van took his frames and he held his advantage to the end.

Now we start to get into the larger improvements...

On 55-1, swipenet entered the mix and innovated the jump from the second-most right bounceblock group. He did this by simply jumping immediately after landing on the cluster of bounceblocks and then walljump off the next group. This may seem obvious and intuitive compared to the previous route where the player would push into the first BB group and then double jump their way up and over the right most BB group. That wasn't the end for this map though, because swipe only saved a frame over xaelar's 0th and that wouldn't secure the 0th for long and indeed this was the case. Soon after swipe had notched up his 5th standing 0th, xaelar came right back over the top of him utilising his innovation and saving another 0.250 seconds. This event seems eerily reminiscent of swipe's 19-1 0th last week. It's tough to mess with the Mad German and get away with it unscathed.

On 27-3, we have a player who was finally successful in conquering the Mad German. 999_Springs was able to take back his beloved 27-3 by using Raif's
BBBWJ route. 999's 0.350 second time saver is impressive. Let's hope that for his sanity, xaelar doesn't come back for it, but something tells me he will. Only time will tell though.

On 68-4, Eddy took down van's extremely clean run, which bested one of LAT's best 0ths back in the day, by 0.125 seconds. Van came right back at Eddy defending his 0th; one upping Eddy by a frame. Sadly for van, but excitingly for us, the Spanish conquistador was feeling the competitive spirit and came back at van with another 0.125 improvement, taking this level to 0.375 seconds over van's original 0th.

And now for the big time savers...

We start with 25-1. I came up with a route change that involved a double corner jump and vankusss was able to pull it off and save 0.675 seconds over Lim; a very old Lim 0th too. Glib then saw an opportunity to join the total 0th rankings and he seized it. He used my route change to take the 0th from van by a solitary frame garnering himself 5 0ths and entering the top-20 0th holders, so congratulations Glib! With Glib's improvement Lim's 0th goes down by 0.700 seconds with my route change.

On 16-0 we start with ska's smallest improvement of this week. Ska completely change the standard gold collection route and took the 0th from van by 0.350 seconds. Ska did not stop there though; he wanted to secure his 0th and improved four times until he pushed the 0th to the 102.000 mark. Now 0.825 seconds over van's original 0th, ska thought this 0th was secured, but in the world of N that is not often so. Eddy sneaked in and saved another 5 frames utilizing ska's new found route and took the 0th for himself.

On 27-1, ska made his second biggest improvement of the week. He innovated the gold route at the beginning of the level and took the 0th from LAT by only 6 frames. Again, like on 16-0, ska did not stop there and improved three more times and eventually ending up with a very clean run. He even had the balls to go straight for the long fall in the center with out sliding to a stop before falling. The innovation and improvements netted ska a 1.175 second buffer ahead of LAT and he retained this 0th until the end of the week.

The largest level improvement goes to van on none other than the dreaded 96-4. Van's first attempt at this 0th landed him 1 frame ahead of Lim, but it seems that there must be a curse on this level, because like LAT and Lim before him, van also missed a gold on his 0th run... Though van did not miss the same piece of gold as the two before him because it was "too mainstream" to miss that gold. Immediately, on literally the next run; just after van made this statement in IRC, he completed an AGD run and improved the 0th to 1.975 seconds over Lim's original 0th. Finally; a clean AGD run on 96-4! A true showing of talent.

Now on to Episode 0ths...

First off we have ska taking episode 40 off Eru by 5.050 seconds. A seemingly random episode considering the level 0ths Ska took this week, but impressive nonetheless. Ska simply outpaced Eru throughout the whole ep and ended with a score to prove it.

And last but not least we have vankusss and his amazing show of cleanliness on episode 96. After taking Lim's 96-4, one of the ugliest level 0ths, He took the most improvable episode 0th, Eru's ep 96 0th. He did this by improving on Eru's -0 through -3 and then pulled out another clean, Lim defying AGD run on 96-4; taking the ep 0th by 15.850 seconds! Making it no longer the worst episode on the boards.

What about the player with the most 0ths on levels that have at least 3 's' letters in the title, exactly 4 'i' letters in the title and located in an odd, but composite numbered episode with the 0th score itself having digits that add up to exactly 24?

So ska said something about being real close to having 12 people with 400 highscores. This got me thinking that its gotta be pretty hard to get highscores these days, and possibly the hardest its ever been. I've put together some stats on the percentage of the boards taken up under various circumstances.

Current rankings, without cheaters

Players with 500+ top20's : 2285 highscores of 12,000 total = 19.04% (4 people)
Top 5: 2755 highscores of 12,000 total = 22.96%
Top 10: 4892 highscores of 12,000 total = 40.77%
Players with 400+ top20's : 5294 highscores of 12,000 total = 44.12% (11 people)
Top 13: 6019 highscores of 12,000 total = 50.16%
Top 20: 7325 highscores of 12,000 total = 61.04%

Current rankings, no ignore list

Players with 500+ top20's : 2285 highscores of 12,000 total = 19.04% (4 people)
Top 5: 2755 highscores of 12,000 total = 22.96%
Top 10: 4892 highscores of 12,000 total = 40.77%
Players with 400+ top20's : 5294 highscores of 12,000 total = 44.12% (11 people)
Top 13: 6022 highscores of 12,000 total = 50.18%

The change in the top 13 was the addition of L3X at 12th place, who had 3 more top20's than johnny_faneca. This was also the only change in the top 20, knocking jg9000 off of the list.

This is the earliest set of rankings with a top20 listing of highscores from the old forums.

Players with 500+ top20's: 501 highscores of 12,000 total = 4.18% (trib4lmaniac)
Players with 400+ top20's: 429 highscores of 12,000 total = 7.75% (trib4lmaniac and johnny_faneca)
Top 5: 1882 highscores of 12,000 total = 15.68%
Top 10: 3129 highscores of 12,000 total = 26.08%
Top 20: 4829 highscores of 12,000 total = 40.24%

January 20, 2006 rankings

This is the first time that the top20 rankings were posted on the forums, and it only listed the top 10 players, just like the 0th rankings were at that point.

Players with 500+ top20's : 511 highscores of 12,000 total = 4.26% (trib4lmaniac)
Players with 400+ top20's : 965 highscores of 12,000 total = 8.04% (trib4lmaniac and johnny_faneca)
Top 5: 1822 highscores of 12,000 total = 15.18%
Top 10: 2948 highscores of 12,000 total = 24.57%

After compiling this, I think that it is harder for a new player to get established as a highscorer because there are more people than ever entrenched on the boards. I think it says something that at no point in the history of highscoring have the top 20 players come close to having half of all possible spots until recently, and now 13 people have half.

Happy New Year everyone!

First let me apologize for this taking so many days to come out. I have been rather busy with family stuff for Christmas and way too much drinking for New Years. But enough about me, on to the kick ass week that just happened.


A massive 28 0ths were taken over the past week. Some players fell hard, others made out like bandits.

Starting with the players that suffered the largest net losses.

Our first ranked, xaelar, was hit the hardest this week; losing 7 0ths and only taking 1 for a net of -6 0ths. As it turns out Eddy was truly xaelar's nemesis this week, but he was everyone's nemesis.

Eru lost 5 0ths this week and took none, netting -5 0ths. Because of these loses and Eddy's gains Eru lost a rank to Eddy.

Mr_Lim lost 3 0ths this week. He lost all of his 0ths to innovations. So much for the master of innovation... Occupy Lim!

lookatthis lost 2 0ths this week and consequently fell to tied for 9th. It is a bit strange to see him so far down the rankings.

Vankusss took 5 0ths this week, lost 6 0th, netted -2 0ths. Despite his net loss this week, xaelar had it worse so van actually increased his lead as the 0th overall player.

Glib lost 1 0th this week and moved down a rank to be tied for 16th.

Hendor lost 1 0th this week and has now been pushed off the total and level 0th rankings. Bon voyage good sir!

Now for the players who went positive.

Swipenet gained, lost, and regained the same 0th this week in a battle with van. This 0th moved him up a place in the rankings and is now tied for 14th.

Ska took 4 0ths and only lost one, but netted only 2 0ths because he improved one of his own.

Eddy the conquistador took a staggering 20 0ths and only lost 2. With this massive gain in 0ths Eddy moves commandingly in to 2nd overall, so congrats to him.
