Alright, I haven't even made a single map in some time, but at work tonight I was screwing around and remembered just how fun the game is so I'm going to go on a short spree followed by another probable long hiatus. With this spree I want to make an impression on the community and bring back some of the spirit from years ago. The map pack is going to be fairly small (less than 25 maps total), of superior quality (all final decisions and edits will go through either me or Slappy if he decides to do a couple maps), will hopefully show a diverse number of authors (I don't want any single person aside from myself doing more than 2 maps to avoid getting maps that are sloppily thrown together), and will demonstrate the atmosphere and flow of old style maps (i.e. will focus on movement, jumps, and items moreso than complicated tile sets, puzzles, or incredibly hard maps for the sake of immense difficulty).

So, if you would be okay with only doing a couple maps, making those couple maps extremely good (not just in 10 minutes), like the style of N from years ago, and want to contribute post here. This is on a whim so if no one thinks it sounds fun that's cool too, I'll just make it myself, but I thought it'd be fun if a couple people caught on. Alright, Peace!

Well, i'm really okay with this.
I'll try to make three maps in terms as you want.

Think Metanet maps. I'm totally in support of this, but I can't make non-shitty Metanet maps.

Also, Clovic, hi. It's a shame you don't want to hang out, at least on IRC.

Glad to see a classic user return. I'm also in for this as well.

Well, Aidiera told me to think Metanet, so i did...

I made a map, with superliminal in mind

trance told me it would need more action
My original map v2.0, v1.0 was lost

Then trance & Aidiera both told me it had too much lag (i'm still unsure what they meant as drone lag wouldn't be a problem with this pathing)

Then Aidiera edited the map

I tried not to over do it, with all these conflicting decisions, i ended up with something... odd

The Locked Doors i think may just be a bit too much, but i'm happy with most of the rest

Anyway, since it says all final decisions will go through you hoping you're not a brick wall i thought i would show you what i had done & get some advice, since you're the one that knows what style you're going for

Er... quickly did a map for this. It's basically two minimaps in one (though they can be taken apart in different maps if you want.) Both reminisce on the 80s column and a bit of early concept mapping. I hope it's ok.

Code: Select all

Oh man LouDog, long time no see!

Everyone else, I'll take a look at the postings and respond by tomorrow probably through pm's. Appreciate it!

Wait what? Uh, a chance to work with /Clovic/? I'd not be surprised if this ends up with more maps and released faster than MotA - there should reasonably be such a queue for this for it do be so.

So in, and also would love to do a collab, since honestly, I only really can collab now, since I've not made a map by myself in what feels like a year. That and it would make a more cohesive pack sharing ideas.

I totally just read that as, "I'd hate to be the only black guy stuck using v1.4."

Does that mean, we send our maps to you through PMs?

Also, i made another map

This time with Zenith & a dual gauss map in mind, the difficulty is pretty good i think

The floor gaurd(s) & the mines that aren't by the gauss are the only things i though made it look ugly

I can try. But my style in mapping is about as far away from Metanet-esque as you can get!

I didn't get very many pm's, not really enough interest to make it a real community thing. I made some maps for it and I wouldn't be opposed to doing it still, but I need entries to be more organized and sent through pm.
