Nv2 vs N+, physics

Hi all. I have been a huge fan of N+ for both PSP and DS. They are some of my favorite games of all time. However whenever I've tried to play N 1.4 in the past, the physics always seemed really floaty and weird. The game seemed slower, so I never really could get into it.
I found out about Nv2 today and I was really excited about it! I've downloaded it and tried it out for a few minutes. While it does seem like an improvement over 1.4 as far as speed, the physics still seem to be modeled after 1.4 instead of more similar to N+.
Can anyone confirm this?
I'm definitely going to give Nv2 an honest shot with a gamepad and see if I can finally "get into it"... Limitless levels would be awesome!

Yeah, that's definitely true. N 2.0 is meant to be an updated version of N 1.4 and Metanet tried to get the physics as close as possible to the old version, since that's what most people know and love--you just happen to have gotten used to the physics on a different version.

Yea... But, fortunately I have gotten used to N 2.0 and really enjoyed it the past few days! I've got a growing collection of "faves". I was wondering if there is any way to download the favorites to the local hard drive? That way I can make sure I could still play the same levels in 10 years or something when I come back to re-play it.chiffℴnade wrote:Yeah, that's definitely true. I'd like to start making my own levels too, as soon as they fix the editor bug

But be careful, faves are limited for 50 (thats pretty stupid i think). You can save url's of levels to some text file, or just ID's or full code (download through getdata app). But it has some problems so faves are best way.

Hm. So with this getdata method, there is a way to save the actual level file to the local hard drive? I did a search but I can't seem to find the same app that you're referring to.. Only some data retrieval stuff for broken hard drives.panstromek wrote:But be careful, faves are limited for 50 (thats pretty stupid i think). Also how can you open up a level code/URL on the PC/Mac version as opposed to the online version? Is it even possible?
It seems like somebody should be able to come up with some kind of offline level manager utility where you can download, sort, and launch your favorite user created levels.
Hm

I was almost at 50 anyway so I spent my lunchbreak today trying more levels and fave'ing them. It definitely let me go over 50. I currently have 64 levels in my list. I wonder if the limit was increased?panstromek wrote: faves are limited for 50 (thats pretty stupid i think).
And what happens if I hit the new limit? I was considering making a second account for adding more faves, but it looks like I won't have to do that (now at least). Do you think Metanet would mind?
Thanks!

I honestly think that: If you get a mate that hasn't played Nv1.4 or 2.0, the physics of 2.0 would attract them AND make it easier for them to get into play/p[lay on than 1.4.

Hm, it seems that it's not letting me add any more maps now. It says it "added to faves", but they don't show up in the list anymore.organic io wrote:I was almost at 50 anyway so I spent my lunchbreak today trying more levels and fave'ing them. Really sucks, because the levels play too slow inside the web browser on my macbook.
I may or may not have created a second account in order to add more faves. Metanet if you think this is unacceptable please let me know, but I really really really really wish there was a way to add unlimited faves and/or download the levels locally. Thanks!

Hi Organic IO -you could always just write the level names of the maps u wanted to have as favourites and then search by title. (or save screenshots of the maps as pics with the map title as the name :) )
Reg. N2physics, I looked up some N+ clips, I never really paid attention to the physics -but damn, I like, looks fun. I agree with Maxwell, Im glad they slowed the jumps down in N2 compared to 1.4 because I certainly need it for hard complex maps.

Yea it's definitely a good game. I can't speak for the 360 version since I've never tried it, but the PSP and DS are both excellent. The main difference from Nv2 is that on N+, he doesn't jump as high.. It pretty much just feels like there is more gravity in N+. It's neither better or worse, just different. It took me a little while to get used to Nv2, but when I stopped trying to compare the two and just accept that it's a -different- game, then I really started to enjoy Nv2 a lot more :)james_S wrote: Reg. The main downside of N+ though is sharing levels... DS I don't think you can at all, and on PSP the level browser is a pain. 360 might be better for that though, and if I ever find a cheap 360 one day I'm sure I'll be trying it out :)

they'll fix all that in N++ Im sure :D Check out the concept art trailer http://www.nplusplus.org/ Although I'd be disappointed if they keep the 5stars rating system as I would much prefer out of 10. They had 5star system since ages ago on numa maps and I guess not many ppl complained to them in all that time

Eh yeah, the disappointing thing about N++ is that it's only coming out for PS4. Wtf? Especially since it could probably run on a Playstation 1.james_S wrote:they'll fix all that in N++ Im sure :D Check out the concept art trailer http://www.nplusplus.org/ Although I'd be disappointed if they keep the 5stars rating system as I would much prefer out of 10. I'm sorry to say but I probably won't be playing N++ until 2022. Heck I didn't even get a PS2 until 2008. I'm not much to adopt new hardware, for several reasons...
1) Not caring about many new games
2) Why care about new games when there are so many good classic games and indie games which work on low-spec PC's.
(Hey, now is a good time to plug my 2d platformers thread --> http://forum.droni.es/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=10008 )
3) It's expensive and I am a) poor and b) a cheapskate
Probably the only system I ever got when it was new was PSP and that was WELL worth it for the homebrew and emulators.
So I'm a bit disappointed in that decision, but whatever it's not my call. You would think they would at least make it multi-platform on all the current gen systems which are still selling games since it would play on practically anything. They could make a ton more money that way. Whatever

about max number of favourites, I already forgot some maps I was gonna nominate in the nominate n2 userlevels thread :( . Strange how they felt the need to keep the data to be saved to a minimum in this day and age, but there was 100% no excuse for making the leaderboard on the official metanet maps have only 10 slots (even tho I don't play them).
Lol. I mentioned N++ in an excited tone, but I also don't have a ps4, Im just in denial that in the end it wont come out on other platforms, esp PC. Nearly everyone who posted on the metanet blog mentioned not wanting it to be on ps4 only

Well, tonight I decided I was gonna come up with a solution for myself. I tried the getdata method and pasting levels into the editor. That would actually work IF there wasn't the bug that you can't playtest the level.james_S wrote:about max number of favourites, I already forgot some maps I was gonna nominate in the nominate n2 userlevels thread :( .
So I thought for giggles I would load up the online version in Google Chrome instead of Firefox.
Amazing the difference in speed! I think Chrome plays it faster than the native Mac app, so that is definitely the preferred way, because now I can just bookmark all the levels. Excellent :)

OK, so is this a crazy idea...
Why hasn't somebody made some kind of online level bookmark manager?
It could work like this: It would look just like the faves screen. All you would have to do is while you are playing a level, you click a bookmark link kind of like delicious links work, and then the script automatically pulls the getdata, pushes it into the image generator --> http://mapswap.wickedosity.net/image/, and then places the image, levelname, and link into your own customized "faves" page where you can sort your levels, and click on the images the launch them in the browser.
Hm.
Shouldn't be too hard to set up, I wouldn't think.
I'm not much of a coder though. Maybe I'll work on figuring something out though if nobody else thinks they can whip something up. We'll see.

OK, I decided not to reinvent the wheel and see if it could be done with existing utilities/sites
After a bit of research, I came up with something very acceptable called "Clipular". Basically it is a Chrome extension which takes a screenshot of the current page and creates a link to it. You can add comments on your links (where I type the level names)
Here's what it looks like:
Very cool!
But, not only is it useful for yourself, but could also be an interesting way to share levels among the community?
Sooooo. Please let me know if any of you think this is useful, and maybe it deserves its own thread with an explanation on how to set it up?

You can of course sort levels into different catagories, and even come up with your own comment system, in order to keep track of stats such as "F" for "finished", "G" for all gold, etc. :)

Well I created an account, got a verification e-mail. clicked on the link and the said verification is invalid.
Retried it a couple of time but the same error. Is someone still using this, of you have a better alternative?

its funny, when you got onto this forum, the first thing I was going to say is- Maybe you should save some maps you make otherwise some you want to keep will not be seen again. So its cool to see you trying this option

Yes , you have any sugetion? ;)
Its to bad you cant play userlevels offline.
I keep all the codes in txt.
But in N1.4 and reality you could also play them offline.
Now if the Nv2 server stops, I don't see a way to play them. (yea maybe in Older N but they not compatible with 70% of my level I think)
