lapsus

Where the hell are you learning your English from, the dictionary? I don't think I've ever seen or heard that word used before, yet bizarrely you used the word perfectly. I've heard "lapse" of course, but never lapsus. Has anyone else reading this post heard this word used before? Chrome doesn't even detect it as a word (it might be a great browser, but it has a godawful dictionary.) Anyway, here's the wiki entry. I'm guessing that since lapsus is the same in English as in Spanish, that it is more frequently used in the Spanish lexicon; especially given its Latin etymology.

Yes, in fact it's quite commonly used in Finnish. I actually had no idea it was used elsewhere until now, but it makes sense if the word comes from Latin.

The key can't retract properly for the next key strike -- Perhaps a mechanical keyboard or desktop keyboard might be better suited.

I have a mechanical keyboard and I haven't had a problem with keys retracting slowly, but now that I think about it I can definitely see how that would be an issue with "normal" (non-mechanical) keyboards.

@TRO: I don't think there's much missing here by not skipping a few doors, unlike in sr, here we pretty much have to go through everywhere, I don't think we lose much time by taking the switches. However, feel free to prove me wrong with a new route, that's not my strong point :P

2-0 definitely has potential, but your ascent on the right is very very good. So it will be tough to completely capitalize on your innovation if someone has to out do you on the right as well.

@83-4 Great run, very clean. And I was being a bit sarcastic with my comment to JP. Some of the switches that you could skip are right next to gold so a route that doesnt require getting them may still get them because it is just faster to pass through them on your way to a gold piece.


The Red switch probably has to BE grabbed because only MBDs will be able to skip that door, the Yellow is possible real time, but you are going to ruin a lot of good runs by not chimneying fast enough. All of the Green should be easy enough to skip for most people real time.

That all said, to me, only the Middle Green and the Yellow switches seem "far" from gold so it is possible that a route could be designed that does not pass through those two switches and as a result saves time. Also the Middle Green is the switch to the very top door so you don't even need to chimney through it just touch it. Other than that it seems likely that whatever the theoretical optimal route is for this map it likely passes through the other switches just because that is the best way to get the gold.

So in the end I wasn't trying to demean JP's route/0th nor your 0th, just trying to do a bit of friendly chiding.

@35-2 that is a great run. You optimized the hell out of the center room, but xaelar out did you on the bottom and finally you two reach the LP at nearly the same frame and you just edged him out. Great drama for sure.

@43-3 I am sure its not maxed, but it has to be pretty damn close. I can't think of any innovations other than doing a CK on the center BB after the exit switch, but I doubt you will be able to get a good double jump, if at all, off the left BB. So that probably is a dead end. Great run.

Haha, I hadn't considered that it could sound weird. Lapsus is of common use in spanish as you guessed, to be honest I didn't even look up whether it was used in english too! Which I guess I should've done considering english main ancestry isn't latin, unlike for spanish :P

Many latin phrases are still in today's spanish language, and I guess in most romance languages. There's even an article listing the most common ones in the spanish Wiki. Of course, a bunch of them don't sound so "common" to me :P et cetera (etc) might be among the most used ones in all languages.

@TRO: Hehe yeah, I knew your previous comment was sort of facetious don't worry, although the idea is interesting which is why I kept going on the topic :P Indeed, most optimal routes probably do pass through the switches. Regarding 43-3, that was interestingly the 0th that took me the longest, it's very tight. I thought on the ck innov, but assumed it wouldn't give me enough height for the bb double as you said. As for 35-2, I noticed I slightly screwed up the chamber exit haha, however, I kept trying for some time after that and didn't manage to put everything in the same run. I have, however, a couple innovs which could pull the run up to 119 even, with a very clean run that is. I haven't tested them yet, but if they are worth it, I'll post it on the innovs thread.

2-0 is a nice little level. Good work. Used to be one of my favourites, I recall trading 0ths with Goo... Always a case of perfecting the right hand side, making the difference going down the middle, then holding it all together going up to the finish!

When Spanish people learn french, it's quite the same: they use bizarre - yet correct - old words. And when I "learned" Spanish, I had to think about what old french word would be test to try to find the corresponding Spanish version.

It looks pretty similar to one of my old 0ths, that I think eru took from me (and maybe somebody else by now, who knows lol). Can't remember which level number it is though, of course.

I like this thread, my first 0th on 96-1 where I scored 96.xxx with a new route to beat three people who were all at 93.xxx. Ska responded: "I doubt that I will ever see this broken...". Just look at the level now :D Eddy's almost at 110!

don't know if hendor is still browsing the forums since his comeback but here's my little piece of self-promotion: the current route on 96-1 is mine. glib_jase and eddy shamelessly copied it to get the 0th

credit goes to darkshadow1416 for coming up with the main idea for the route which was a lot different than lookatthis/mr_lim's route; i simply swapped the position of two pieces of gold along his route to gain like 1 second, but that still counts for the route being mine :)

it was the only metanet level innovation i thought of that i've been able to pull off.

Hahah :P Regarding 73-1, that's totally right. I realized it, but I wasn't being consistent at the fast beggining. I got a .600 AGD -1 run though, so around that mark is definitely attainable.

At any rate, I've stuck with "x" for a while now, with "c" as my suicide key (because I like to live dangerously.) ;)

Wow I didn't think anyone would implement that double jump. Bold move and it certainly paid off. That was definitely one of xaelar's best runs as well. Great execution.

@73-1 There is no way that doing the SR start and continuing with the HS route after the exit switch is faster right? Kool gets to the switch a lot faster than xaelar, but one would have to keep that time while collecting two extra sets of gold on the left that the HS route has already collected.

So you would need to be less than 63 frames slower. I am around 80 frames slower, but maybe someone can execute better. Here is a quick test map for the two routes on the left.

It's quite possible that Eddy never watched the demo, but I would think that he has. At any rate, I don't blame him for taking credit (at, at least, not giving raif credit), as Eddy most likely had the idea buried in his subconscious; I doubt Eddy would snob Raif on purpose. :P Actually, I've just done some digging, and Qix (a highscorer from the golden era) uses the the same trick. (Others might do it, too, but I can't be bothered checking...)

Regardless, it's a really good run.

Now, regarding JP's route change; it looks very promising. I've also thought for quite a while that it's a bit amusing how the runs on 59-3 are not only diverse in route choice, but are all fairly even spaced between 0th and 15th (4.775 seconds difference), then from 15th to 19th it tapers away dramatically, with a further difference of 5.575 with sammage's 92.575 run.

I remember being amazed when Johnny_faneca, Trib4lmaniac and especially Mr_Lim's 0th count fell under my own (I think I made a similar post to this back when it happened). It was a very surreal experience to see former grandmasters start from humble beginnings, reach their peak, then ultimately be eroded to practically nothing like a sandcastle eroded by the rising tide. To see xaelar be tied with my own 0th count is staggering; especially considering that exactly 5 years ago to this day he had 262 0ths. Who knows, maybe the same thing will happen to Eddy? Seem insane? People would have called you insane to predict xaelar would drop to 10 0ths in 5 years time after reaching his peak. (Personally, I don't hold this belief; I'm just trying to make a point, as Eddy's castle is more like a fortress than a castle :P Also, this is the first time xaelar hasn't had more 0ths than me since March 2007 (almost 8 years ago.) Indeed, it was done by the crazy 12 year old macro, back when you were a mystery :P For those who haven't noticed, the reason macro is reluctant is that there's a bottleneck at the end which makes it quite tricky to clean more frames.
