Hey, guys. I'm posting to say that we've had the eight Neditor Nation Gym maps in for a while, but only a few Judges have sent me complete scores. They are: BuddyLee, gloomp, Pikman/kisler, and yappydog. If we want to start the contest, we'll need more than four Judges. I think we should at least have 7 or 8, but 10 would probably be better in case some Judges can't help at certain times or if there are a ton of entries in a particular week. Anyway, if you are interested in being a Neditor Nation Judge, please post here saying you'll volunteer and I will send you the maps. If you are already a Judge and have already sent in all the scores, just post here confirming that you are still on board. Thanks.

For those of you who may not know what Neditor Nation is, flip through the old thread here.

Bumped because we could really use more Judges, and because I've finished the revised rules. I know it's a lot, but you'll have to read it eventually, so please read them to make sure I haven't forgotten anything and to make sure you agree with the Player Score system.
Neditor Nation: Gotta map ‘em all!
The (Tentative) Rules

Structure:
  • Neditor Nation is composed of eight (8) main challenges called Gyms. Each Neditor must challenge the Gyms in a set order to advance in the competition.
  • The first Neditor to successfully complete all eight Gym challenges becomes the Neditor Nation Champion. Other Neditors to complete the eight Gym challenges after the first must challenge the Champion for his position.
  • In addition to Gym challenges, Neditors may scrimmage each other in a one-on-one challenge similar to a Gym challenge.
  • Special events may occur in Neditor Nation that will offer Neditors a unique challenge.
  • Each Neditor has his own Player Score. Accomplishments such as a successful Gym challenge or a scrimmage victory increase a Neditor’s Player Score. Player Score will be used to rank Neditors in the competition.
  • The contest will run in weeks, beginning on Monday. Neditors will have the opportunity to challenge Gyms from Monday to Wednesday. Judging will occur from Thursday to Sunday. Neditors may scrimmage each other at any time. Special events may run for any number of days or weeks.
  • The progress of every Neditor in Neditor Nation will be recorded in a spreadsheet. Weekly results and rankings will be announced at the start of each new week.
  • Prizes will be given to the first Neditor to become Champion, the Neditor who remains Champion through the highest number of challengers, and others, depending on how long Neditor Nation operates.
Judging:
  • It is important to note Judging first because all Gym challenges, scrimmages, and maybe certain Special Events will be scored in the same manner.
  • A map is scored on the following rubric:
    • Gameplay, 0 to 20 points.
    • Aesthetics, 0 to 10 points.
    • Originality, 0 to 10 points.
  • Judges evaluate Gym, Champion, and Special Event challenges. It is up to a third Neditor to score a scrimmage between two Neditors.
  • The Judges are: …
Gyms:
  • As stated before, there are eight (8) Gyms in Neditor Nation, each with its own Leader.
  • The Leader of each Gym has made a map that follows two (2) rules. The first rule determines what enemy may be used for each map; the second is a unique rule of the Leader’s choosing. Both rules remain the same throughout the competition.
  • When a Neditor challenges a Gym, he must make a map that follows both of the Gym’s rules. All challengers’ maps must be posted to NUMA so that a link can be provided for the Judges in the Gym Challenge Submission Thread.
  • A Neditor may only challenge a Gym once per week.
  • Concerning the enemy rule: There is one Gym for each enemy. Mines are allowed in all Gyms. The difference with the Mine Gym, obviously, is that maps must use exclusively mines.
  • The Leaders’ maps will be posted on NUMA. If a Neditor challenging a particular Gym posts a completion demo on the Leader’s map, the Neditor will receive one (1) extra point added to his total score when he challenges the Gym. If the Neditor is not successful, he will still gain his one-point bonus the next time he challenges the Gym. Submitting an all-gold completion demo has similar benefits, except that the bonus is worth three (3) points. It is the Neditor’s responsibility to mention his demo when challenging a Gym.
  • As stated before, a Neditor must complete the Gym challenges in a set order. That order is: … For example, a Neditor cannot challenge the … Gym until he has completed the … Gym, and so on.
  • The Gym Leaders, in order, are: …
Championship:
  • The first Neditor to complete all eight Gym challenges will become the Champion of Neditor Nation. All other Neditors to complete all eight Gym challenges must defeat the reigning Champion in order to become Champion.
  • The role of the Champion is similar to the role of a Gym Leader. Upon becoming Champion, the Champion must make a map that follows any two (2) rules of his choosing. The Judges will then evaluate the map, providing the score for challengers to beat. Challengers will have to follow these two rules as well.
  • If a challenger is successful, the defending Champion is removed from his position and is unable to challenge any more Gyms or Champions. He may, however, participate in scrimmages and Special Events after he has been removed.
  • If a challenger is unsuccessful, he may challenge the Champion again.
  • Only one Neditor can challenge the Champion in a given week.
Scrimmages:
  • Any two Neditors may scrimmage at any time. A third Neditor is required to determine the winner of the scrimmage because the Judges are not in charge of evaluating scrimmages.
  • At the beginning of the scrimmage, each Neditor who will be mapping chooses a rule for the maps to follow. Each Neditor’s map will have to follow both rules.
  • After both maps are complete, the third Neditor uses the universal rubric to determine the winner.
  • It is then the responsibility of one of the three Neditors to email the result of the scrimmage to (email address) so that the spreadsheet can be updated. The results will be added to whatever the current week is when the email is received. For example, if a scrimmage takes place on Sunday of one week, but the results are received on Monday of the next week, the results will be added to the later week.
Special Events:
  • Special Events will occur from time to time in Neditor Nation. These are events that have their own rules and objectives, and create a unique challenge for Neditors to overcome.
  • Special Events will be announced on the Transcend. blog.
  • Judges are in charge of scoring Special Event maps.
Player Score:
  • A Neditor’s Player Score will be calculated based on the following values:
    • A Neditor gains 500 points for completing a Gym challenge, defeating the reigning Champion, or defeating a challenger as reigning Champion.
    • A Neditor gains 200 points for winning a scrimmage.
    • A Neditor loses 100 points for losing a scrimmage.
    • A Neditor gains or loses specified numbers of points as determined by the rules of and his participation in a Special Event.
    • A Neditor gains 300 points for submitting completion demos on all Gym maps.
    • A Neditor gains 500 points for submitting all-gold completion demos on all Gym maps. If the Neditor has already submitted completion demos on all Gym maps, this bonus replaces the other bonus.
    • Excessive disregard for Neditor Nation rules and policies may result in point deductions depending on the severity and frequency of the offense.
    • Neditors will be ranked by Player Score at the end of each week.
General Rules:
  • New Neditors may join Neditor Nation at any time by posting in the Neditor Nation Sign-Up Thread, but they must start from scratch no matter how far the contest has progressed.
  • Use of NReality and Manual Nediting are not allowed in Gym or Championship challenges, and are not allowed in Special Event challenges unless the rules of the Special Event state otherwise.
  • Neditors in a scrimmage may use NReality and Manual Nediting if both competitors agree to allow it. If a Neditor uses NReality or Manual Nediting in a scrimmage and the other competitor has not agreed to allow it, the other competitor has the right to void the scrimmage. If this occurs, there is no need to email the results. If the results have already been sent, the Neditor who sent the first message must send a second message saying that the results should be voided. If a Neditor continues to use NReality or Manual Nediting without the agreement of the other competitor, please contact someone in authority (an Administrator or Judge) so the issue can be resolved.
  • Please report all other issues to someone in authority as well so that they may be resolved. It is my goal to run this competition as smoothly as possible so that all involved may enjoy it.
  • Please be sure that you have read and understand the rules of Neditor Nation, and enjoy the contest!
Edit: The Spreadsheet is also complete, with room enough for 50 Neditors. More spaces can be added easily, should there be more than 50 entrants. The Transcend. blog is also in the middle of a revamp for the competition. If we had another handful of Judges, we'd be almost there!

I can be a judge, not a super very reliable one, so you might not want to count me as a judge.

I'll judge if i have some spare time though. So yeah..

Oh Pheidi, I am seriously sorry, as I stepped forward to be a judge if needed, but when I did so, it was during summer, and I had too much time with too little to do.
But now school is getting in the way, and I don't think I can handle continuously judging maps at this time.
My apologies. No hard feelings?

Of course not. You didn't assign yourself the schoolwork. ;)

You know, if there is a chance, I still might be able to compete in it. I really want to see this work.
Good luck finding judges.

Okay, we're at 6 Judges, but we still need more. I'd like to start signups by the end of November for a December 1st start, but we need a few more volunteers! The more volunteers we have, the less work that each Judge has to do. ;)

Oops, only just found this. Just to confirm: Yes, I think I'll be able to fit judging in, provided nothing vital comes up.

Quoted for restatement/emphasis. If we can get one or two more Judges, I'll get ready to start the competition. I'm just hoping the original volunteers will still be active. We'll need as many Judges as possible for this to get going smoothly. Please, consider volunteering.

*Bumped*

Just 10 days until the tentative start date! We've got a fantastic contest ready for everyone, but we could really use just a few more kind souls to help with Judging. Also, if any of you can take a few minutes to thumb through the revised rules and make sure I didn't forget anything, that'd be really helpful. We have 7 Judges currently. I think if we get 8, and they're all active, then this contest could be run pretty smoothly. I'm going to PM the Judges who originally signed up on the old forums, but never responded, and see if they might be able to help out. If I can get everything in order, maybe a Sign-Up thread on Monday?

What exactly would judging entail? I'm only on the forums in the morning, and rarely on weekends, but I could probably fit this in since you seem somewhat desperate.

How many maps would I have to do and how quickly? Like, is this an everyday thing?

Basically, Judges are judging maps on Thursday to Sunday every week and sending the results along to me. There may or may not be a lot of entries because there's been a lot of interest over the last six months we've been planning this, but that of course was a few months ago. I honestly don't know what kind of turnout we can expect. If you think you can help us out, and you'll be active on most weeks, then by all means we'll have you. Don't feel pressured to volunteer just because we need Judges, though. If you can't help, there's no problem. Thanks for your interest.

Alright, I'm in. That is, for now.

This sounds like fun, if you can get enough people, so I will try to make space for it.

PS: How do you pronounce your name?

Excellent. I'll send you the PM.

Haha, it's pronounced "feh-dip-eh-dees". You should have been around in the days when people hadn't yet figured out how to abbreviate it. Thinking quickly, our heroes coined "Pheidi" in the nick of time.

Thanks for your help with the contest. :)

This contest may very well start on December 1st, provided that the Judges are around at that time. We could really use another Judge or two, just to be sure we'll have enough for a potential Week 1 next week. If anyone is interested, please don't hesitate to post. Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Cool beans. Apparently anyone can join, so can I be a participant? Might be a judge depending on circumstances.

Question 1: Am I allowed to challenge Gym Leaders using previously made maps?

Question 2: Is there an opening for a Gym Leader?

Question 3: Do the challenges have to be organised or is just a tag and a post on a thread necessary?

Question 4: Why isnt there a FAQ for this comp?

1: No.
2: No.
3: Just the tag and the post in the appropriate thread. The Gym maps don't change, so there's no need to organize anything. Just post in the thread and the Judges will take it from there.
4: There are revised rules here, which I will now have to update to include the rule about old maps. Thanks for pointing that out. :) As for FAQ, I'm planning on three threads for this contest to keep things organized. A Signup Thread and Gym Challenge Thread for those purposes, and a Discussion Thread for questions, comments, organizing scrimmages, and general discussion of the contest. That's where the FAQs will get answered because this contest is so complex I wouldn't know where to begin with writing FAQs myself.

I hope that clears everything up. I realize this contest is a lot to take in at first.

If I do volunteer to be a judge, does that mean I cannot challenge gyms? Would it be possible for me to judge and challenge gyms at the same time, and then if I do manage to defeat a gym I would give up being a judge?
