Finally… the highscore results!
Firstly, I’m really sorry for keeping all of you on a cliffhanger, but now that I’ve got my immediate work projects taken care of, I can finally summarize the gripping round of Blur 5 that was… ROUND 4!
Eddy kicked things off early with a decent 123.250, but the 0th was short lived. This was because jp27ace used his route-finding prowess to discover a faster path. But it wasn’t just that the route was faster, Ace had successfully conceptualized
and implemented a route that involved not one
but two daring drone dodges to break 125, with a score of 125.025.
A day later, danielr flexed his fingers and proved that he wasn’t just a speedrun stalwart. Daniel must have been educated at the same ninja academy as Ace, because his run essentially used the same route as the flying ace—except with a few minor tweaks—to steal the 0th by a solid 0.375 seconds.
It took almost an entire week before the 0th was in any danger of falling; macrohenry got within a frame, and then NReality essentially went dark with the loss of nmaps.net. This caused an extension that made for some interesting last-minute highscore submissions.
Xaelar improved his run, but astonishingly it wasn’t enough to claim any points. Lifdoff was able to secure a point, and, most notably, macrohenry did a pony (not sexually, you of filthy mind) and secretly sniped the 0th by a single frame. Not quite satisfied with his stealthy assassination of dan’s 0th, macrohenry improved his run by a couple of more frames for a final score of 125.450, which was the final 0th score at the deadline.
I’ve included all of the demos submitted by the Blur competitors below. Enjoy! (Demo mode makes for some very interesting comparisons!)
10 points (125.475) — Macrohenry:
9 points (125.400) — danielr
8 points (125.025) — jp27ace
7 points (124.275) — oxymoron 93
6 points (123.825) — vankusss
5 points (123.250) — EddyMataGallos
4 points (123.225) — Mohit_Ghune
3 points (123.025) — golfkid
2 points (122.775) — nadroj347
1 point (122.650) — lifdoff
Innuendonewb, xaelar and jirka all submitted scores (but didn't qualify for points)
Here they are for anyone who's interested...
11th (121.375) — innuendonewb
12th (120.475) — xaelar
13th (119.975) — jirka
Below is the current ladder. Note that Macro has increased his lead in pole position and has mathematically secured his place in the top-4. The big battle will be over a valuable top-4 position, with—given the double points round—anyone from 5th through 11th is mathematically within contention, although the odds will be heavily stacked against the lower ranked players, even if they managed to pull off a 0th run. Xaelar's week without points has caused him to slip, and he will probably need to make sure he is amongst the points if he wants to land a finals berth.
Who knows when the Round 5 maps will be announced, because I sure don't!
Stay tuned! ;)
