Getting error 500, but only when I try to submit something. Is this a new problem, or a common occurrence I just haven't run into before?

Well, if it doesn't go away, NUMA will be dead again.Tempus wrote:Getting error 500, but only when I try to submit something. Is this a new problem, or a common occurrence I just haven't run into before?

It's still arachnid at notdot dot net but he hasn't responded to me in years. Actual years. Otherwise you can find him on Google Plus.lifdoff wrote:Who contacted Arachnid the last time went the site went down and how? I distinctly remember it being a different e-mail address and that he responded pretty quickly, but I don't remember the details all that well.
Error 500 is talked about here and it's not something we can do. It might reset in a few days, like in the past though.

Tracked down another address and emailed him.

Not really? I heard back from him, and will hopefully have a useful update soon.

Well, unless Arachnid gives Tempus the login info for NUMA's GAE account, nothing can be done. It's all server-side issues.aapse wrote:so i'm guessing there are no useful updates?Tempus wrote:Not really? I heard back from him, and will hopefully have a useful update soon.

Nothing yet. Arachnid has said he doesn't have time to take care of the server fixes — some of Google's APIs were deprecated, so the site will need some major help. My brother and I are trying to take the site off his hands; he sounds pretty willing to pass it on, but isn't especially responsive. I'll let you all know if there are any developments, or if anyone else can help, but for now I think we just have to wait and hope. I'll shoot Arachnid another email and see if he's thought about it any more, but don't hold your breath.

Well, he did get back to me! If everything sticks to plan he should be transferring the site over to me this weekend. It may take quite some time after that to get the site functional again, but we'll do our best, of course. And THEN I think we should talk about possibly migrating the site and getting more people involved. Or, if repairing it is gonna be such a big job, migration may be the first step. I'll keep y'all up to date, see how things are looking, etc., etc....

^^^According to that, now, yes. He transferred the site over, so I'll set my brother to work on it ASAP. It'll probably take quite a while to fix up, but this is progress!

What kind of server issue?Tempus wrote:^^^According to that, now, yes. He transferred the site over, so I'll set my brother to work on it ASAP. It'll probably take quite a while to fix up, but this is progress!
Thus, from the war of nature, from famine and death, the most exalted object which we are capable of conceiving, namely, the production of the higher animals, directly follows. There is grandeur in this view of life, with its several powers, having been originally breathed into a few forms or into one; and that, whilst this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been, and are being, evolved.

Equilibrium: I'm a novice with sysadmin, but it sounds like the big issue is that an important API was deprecated, and no longer provides any functionality whatsoever.
sidke: Thank you! I will definitely let you know if there's any help you can provide.
My brother (who actually knows how to handle all this shit) will be getting back to the States on Monday, and we can hopefully take some time out and take a gander at what all is going on, get some stuff fixed up. Sorry we haven't gotten on things faster, but hey, guess y'all are used to it :P

sidke remains the only person in this community who has ever said they were going to do something code-related and then actually followed through with it
