IRC and advertising your maps.

When on using the IRC, should you advertise your maps on the #N channel. I admit I don't use it much, due to the endless distraction it could create with homework. But nonetheless, what are your thoughts?
Do you think it should be a better thing just to use the forums via Map rating Thread etc?
Or continuously ask people to go look at and RCE your maps in the channel?
I'm just interested to see what others think.

I would say it's perfectly fine, if it's in a non spamming manner. And if you really think that the forums aren't getting you enough attention.

I think it's okay to post it once, with a comment similar to "Hey, please play this if you have a chance." I am not fond of people posting three or four links every half a minute.

I don't mind it. I generally only respond if it's lord_day, Skyline, or yahoozy, but I don't mind it.

It's fine as long as they don't overdo it. They're usually from good mappers anyway.

I disagree with the poll choices. The forums are not the place for advertising maps. Level packs, yes, as they are considerably more significant, but a map by map advertisement in separate threads is silly and needless. Based on the sheer volume of traffic in the IRC compared to the forums, map advertisements take up much less space, proportionally, and can be much more easily endured. I spam any new maps I make like a motherbitch in the IRC. Still has a minor effect, and generally doesn't impede the IRC in any way, other than a few people taking a bit of time to play a map.

So yes, it is okay, in my eyes.

Id Say yes ... if it was only a friendly link to your map asking for someone to have a look .... but if someone continuosly posted a link i would seriously get pissed off

im pretty sure noone ever spams a link so much its uncomfortable for anyone. that or theyre glined so fast ive never noticed.
i agree with alex on this one, the forums arent a place to advertise, bar the map rating/commenting threads and level packs.

Good idea actually, although I dont advertise much normally, with my series in fruition Ive been looking for advice from a number of people, and the IRC would be the best place to ask, now I think about it. Thanks :)
