While I do agree. To some their post count was a status symbol, or something that they could use to show off with. So while starting all over is good, and sort of makes everyone equal, in a way it doesn't treat to those members who had a lot of posts.

But hey, in the end, it doesn't really matter that much anyway.

I think how long you have been a member really is more important to your role and that having numerous posts and contributing to the community are very different things. although the how long thing is probably biased because I was a member back late '06 before Kimmie got my account deleted through drunken rage
but post count is very different from person to person.
you can see some members that are valued in our community have low post count and have been here since '05.
and I hate to be a hater, but some members like kilser throw around posts with barley any (seemingly) thought.
But as long as Davey assigned the titles I'm happy.
but I think you should have to earn custom member titles with a lot more than just asking.

If how long you have been here is more important, than why shouldn't we get our original join dates back?

I don't see why we need post counts or join dates back. If you're a good member, the community will know it.

That is very true. I guess some people are just sentimental about such things. My personal post count wasn't that high, so I don't feel the need for it to be transfered over.

Since the new forum move, join dates won't matter for a while. There is no need for them to be transfered over (Can you even change those things?). Even if you want to know how long you have been at the forums, just go back to the other ones and add the dates. Not that hard.

If I made 2500 posts, It would be neat to have them put on to here, just because. The best option, really, is entirely eliminating post count, but if not, I would like to get my original post count added on, sooner or later.

We should have a system of goddamn post count-based levels levels that you progress through as you contribute to the community. Post count and join dates don't influence it, rather a few honorable members do. The benefits of this is that those slow-posters do get a chance to be more noticed and spammers never get anywhere. And you can't just join sometime in 1337 and just sit around doing nothing but then say "Oooh, I've been here for ages! I'm so cool! You should respect me more!" Or spam all the way to hell for ages upon ages.

Another forum I was on had a 'Reputation' based system, wherein there is a link in the top of every post that can be used to increase the 'reputation' of that person. Used when someone has made a thread that contributes tothe community, posts something funny, etc. We could use that here, and link the Member title to the amount of reputation someone has. And no, you can't add to your own reputation. What do you think?

I think that's a great idea!

Although knowing this forum, people will probably constantly complain about getting sniped.

Nevermind, I don't think that would be the best idea..

See, I really don't like the idea of "rating" members in any way - it's up to the community as individuals to decide how they feel about a person, without basing their thoughts on some statistic.

Wow. I'm surprised that people want to get rid of the post count system, but won't go for something that is quite logical. That's a surprise. A welcome surprise, but a surprise nonetheless.

I'm surprised as to the amount of people arguing about this when Dave wrote in the FAQ that he'd be matching post counts.

So Dave is the reason that everything has gone to hell about post counts..... *starts brooding*.

Meh, I would like to have my posts back, but the idea of starting anew is always fun and good for equality, which I believe is needed.

I dont see it as a real way of rating a member or placing at a status... The only rating thing i say was newbie, but it doesnt take long to get rid of that... But anyways, depending on how you set it, i see it as comical, ??? dont know,, may just be me... but then again if you transfer counts, it just shows prestige of those that, well basicly live on the forums... not sure if thats 100% accurate, some be epicly know, others well yeah members...

Yeah, rep systems were discussed a long time ago on the old forums and the majority are generally against them.
