so, about how long do we have to wait for our maps to be judged?

You can only challenge one gym, once, per week. A half-weekly wait will probably be normal when this gets running properly, but obviously all submissions need to be judged in one week if at all possible.
However, with the low density of challenges right now, a day or so is more likely. Did you have something to submit yourself?
Scrap that, I just looked at the Challenges thread. I'm really hitting the edits hard today. Apologies.

Wow, it was pretty dumb of me to include the Judge's name and scores in the results PMs. I should've seen this coming. I agree with yappydog; from now on, all anyone's getting in the PM is "You won," or "You lost." The Judges sacrifice a good bit of their time to help officiate this contest, and I won't let them be griped at. Unfortunately, there might still have to be some lack of anonymity, as we need to coordinate who's judging what map. As long as people don't know the scores, though, I think they can be mature enough to accept the Judges' rulings.
Edit: Ugh, guys, demos! I've seen a few challenges that were close enough that a demo or AGD would've put them in for a win. There was even one tie broken by a demo! Seek every opportunity for a bonus! Also, I'm really glad to see all the participation so far. You guys rock.

*this has nothing to do with judging*
so we can't nan a drone to stay still? We HAVE to use doors around it if we want that affect? I can understand not being able to edit launchpads or tiles...but a drone?

Why can't you include the scores, i understand the Judge's name, but i see nothing wrong with giving the person their score, so they know how good their map actually isPheidippides wrote:Wow, it was pretty dumb of me to include the Judge's name and scores in the results PMs. I should've seen this coming.
EDIT - Out of Curiosity, Besides B_Inspired, who actually completed the first gym?

Nope, no NaN'd drones. The whole no-Manual-Nediting part of the rules is supposed to discourage most obtrusive glitching; thwump, one-way, and other subtle/necessary glitches, however, should be okay. It's not subtle or necessary to NaN a drone. There are more creative ways of controlling an enemy's range. That's basically what it boils down to.Hoohah2x2sday wrote:*this has nothing to do with judging*

so we have to wait a whole 24 hours x 7, until we can challenge again,
and could we just submit them to NUMA.... say, three days before we challenge and then use them when we can?

Well, you have to wait until next Monday to submit a challenge, but I don't see why you can't submit to NUMA in the meantime. To answer your first questions, I guess I could provide scores, or at least a margin of victory/defeat? To answer the question in your edit, Erik-Player and Hoohah2x2sday.

I dont think that we need to have the submission only be at the beginning of the week. All of the judges are keeping up just fine. But I think we need to get more judges doing this because not that many of the judges that volunteered are actually participating.
Also I am paranoid about rigging and such. I think 3 judges should get together and decide if a map should pass or not. Also that can avoid serious overating or underating.

I'm still limiting submissions to Monday-Wednesday. The Judges are keeping up, yes, but like spudz said not all Judges are participating this week. Some of them are unavailable at the moment, but will help in future weeks. Three Judges per map is also a bit much to ask of them, considering that would seriously slow down the judging process because each Judge would have to score 3x the number of maps he's already scoring. If that happened, a full week for submissions is seriously out of the question. I also like the Monday-Wednesday idea because it breaks the contest into weeks, which is a better format than one ongoing thing. You may think differences in opinion among the Judges make things difficult, but looking at all of their scores I can say that those who scored Templex's map higher tended to score all the Gym maps as highly, meaning they might score competitors' maps higher than usual as well. The same holds for Judges who gave the Gym maps lower scores. As for starting over, I don't think that will happen. Let's see how the contest runs until the holidays. I want to take the week of Christmas off, anyways, so maybe we can use that down week to work out the glitches in the contest.

Templex has submitted his Gym map to NUMA. The map data will no longer be available in the Gym Challenge Thread. If you post a demo on any of the Gym Leaders' maps on NUMA rather than somehow putting it in your post, remember to notify the Judges when you make your challenge.

PHEIDI I WANT IN! This looks like quite a fun contest, and I don't think I ever would have thought of that. Is there some sort of information page? Oh right, the signups.

tinkers, you can be as original or unoriginal as you want, but just know that being unoriginal will hurt your score. And yes, the Signup Thread is elsewhere in Contests and High Scores.

I understand why only one judge is assigned to each challenge map, but in the future if the number of judges increase, it should definitely be increased to two or three who score individually and then take an average for a final score.
Will there ever be a system for usurping current Gym Leaders and taking their place? Like, if you've achieved Champion status, you can challenge a Gym Leader to a series of scrimmages that use the main gym rule, and a different second rule of the Leader's choice for each scrimmage. Say 3 or 4 total, and you have to win all of them to take their place. And they have to accept your challenge in the first place, so it's not like they would be flooded with challenges. Just an idea.
Or at least a set date at which Leaders rotate or the current Leaders can update their Gym maps and change their second rule. Just something like that, as an eventuality, so it doesn't get stale.

I'm counting on Special Events to keep this contest from getting stale rather than rotating Gym Leaders. I've got a lot of ideas for possible Events, so expect some interesting extras during the contest.

If someone were to, say, submit ALL of their AGDs now, can they get the 800 points now?
*bats eyelids* :P
7 of them are on NUMA, too.

Did my map ever get judged? Because I submitted it two days ago and haven't received any judging yet. Sorry if you're just behind in sending out the results, but I just want to make sure.

I remember that someone picked it up (not me), so it's probably just taking them awhile to get their shit together. ;)
EDIT: Agree with everything spudz said. But if you should happen to run into "biased judging", or whatever, keep in mind that you can challenge a map over and over again. So keep submitting 'til you get a judge that likes you.

Just to clarify that last point, you can challenge a map over and over again, but I think you'll have to keep submitting NEW AND DIFFERENT maps 'til you succeed. Repeated challenges with the same map is unfair, since you're basically trying to find the lowest-scoring judge.flagmyidol wrote:I remember that someone picked it up (not me), so it's probably just taking them awhile to get their shit together. ;)

PS: Sorry about the failure to judge anything yet. GMT is causing a few problems in catching these submissions before they're snapped up. I'm trying, Pheidi, honest!

Yes, yappydog, it's a new and different map for each challenge.
notkitt, I'm 99% sure your map has been judged. I apologize for being a bit behind with the last few results, but school's been a killer this week. :/
PALEMOON, Special Events will be posted here.
Ad, since you brought all the demos to my attention, I don't see why you can't get the 800 points after I watch the demos. That goes for any other demo-ers out there. If you show me the demos, I'll check 'em out.
