The last Nedcon finished. And it actually went well. The theme was off putting though, since it required 5 maps to be submitted at once.

Glad to see all of your submissions. Feel free to edit them for a while, I'm a bit backlogged after a two day trip so I wont be getting them uploaded for a day or two at least. Do me a favor though and post here if you do edit your maps, just to make sure I notice.

Well I didn't run it so it doesn't count. I've run everyone except the first (Which I won), so I think I'm allowed to act as if that didn't exist.

And I forgot to say, whoever was offended by my first post, The "there are noobs, so what can you do about quality" argument is about as lame as it gets. Most of the people mapping right now consistently are not noobs. Most people have over 50 maps, if if the community can't provide good criticism to an author by 50 maps so that they are better that is the community's fault, not the authors. Not to mention I'm going to go on record saying most of the established authors right now, the ones getting 4-5's consistently, really don't make maps as good as maps in the past were. There are a few gems out there, but they are so few and far between considering the number of highly practiced authors. It shouldn't be as hard as it is to find a good map, and noobs are not the problem.

there is a large lack of good criticism at this time...

Nmaps.net

My first submission for this. When making the map, I was rather shocked to find that I don't really know how to make a good map. It seems to be so simple, but it isn't. . . The map manifesto's have helped me immensely since there isn't often much good feedback on NUMA, only things like "Great map" etc. I found it a challenge to make this map good. I made it fun to play, sure I threw aesthetics out the window with it, but there are a lot of ways to complete it with movement being a little restricted. I wasn't sure if I should allow corner jumps, but to prevent them, I would have to use mines and that would ruin the open-ness feel that I was going for.

I hope that I can get away with having the wall-pushes-ninja-through-one-way glitch. It isn't necessary, but it makes things a lot easier down the bottom part. I will remove the one-way if you are strict on the no glitches rule.

The one way is fine, there is no real way around that bug there. What the rule means is if it is required to be a map, it really shouldn't be in there.

::edit:: upon playing the map and not just going off of your description I still think it's fine. I can see metanet doing something like that (and it does play better...)

Also, thanks for putting so much thought into the contest, it seems like at worst the thread is making people think about numa in a new way.

I like the rules, the originality, the way map makers will improve and the way this is all set out. But what's holding me back? I have no idea, nice contest. And sorry for not participating.

Aha! You see, I'm part of the problem. I offer, as far as I know, wonderfully constructive criticism, but only to maps which I single out on the hot maps page. And they get singled out based on the author and the thumbnail. So all the new users just keep making maps based on criticism, or lack thereof, from their peers. Hooray! I'm half way to dealing with the problem.

As for the contest. I will probably be entering this, tonight maybe.

Okay, sorry for the delay, RL is sorted so let's move on. I have all the submissions so far. Feel free to edit them, but if you do you *must* post in the forum here letting me know or I wont get the updates. I'm thinking the deadline for submissions will be after I get back from vacation around the 2nd or 3rd of January. That seems long, but with c-mas coming up, and I take a week long vacation right after that (woo!) it's the earliest I can do. So pencil that in as the tentative deadline.

KEEP MAKING MAPS!
