I realize that N 1.5 won't be coming out for another decade (exaggeration, kinda) but I figured I'd make my suggestion now. A lot of this has probably already been suggested multiple times as well, but please read on.
As we know, all 10 columns of the original Nv1.4 feature maps of all kinds of varieties, mostly action, some puzzle maps here and there, a few slow-going maps and such... blah blah blah.
For Nv1.5, I would like to see some variety based off of the map genres that we have all come to know and love. To do this I would suggest that the 80s column not be strictly usermaps but have usermaps filtered throughout the entire game. I want to see map genres such as action, puzzle, race, prisoner (definitely more prisoner)... But I also want to see survival maps.
Survival maps? Where did this come from? I have long wanted N to be removed from "get the gold if you want, but you have to get to the exit" mentality. Survival maps in N? Why not? Instead of surviving for a certain amount of time you would have to survive for a certain number of frames (I realize frames and time kinda go together, but keep reading). In a survival map trial in the game, the number of frames you survive over the minimum would add seconds to your overall time once you have died. Depending on the difficulty of the map, every 50-100 frames over the minimum, rounded down, would add 1 second to your overall time when you progress, not to exceed 20 or 30 seconds.
Personally I find that this kind of challenge would be unique to v1.5 and N in general. It would add a sense of varied challenge rather than just the same "get to the exit" strategy that is in every other map.
That is my suggestion. Probably other people's ideas, but I hope I've expanded on them a little bit to make it feasible to add into v1.5, whenever that comes about.
Suggestions/criticism/comments would be wonderful.

This sounds great and is obviously very well thought-out. I don't understand why frames come into it though- frames are for debug mode, time is for the actual play mode. So yeah i'm a tad confused about that, although its probably simply a matter of switching terms?

1. i dunno if this is even possible, but wouldnt borderless maps be awesome?
if you could, when building a map, just get rid of the floor or a side
if the ninja fell, it would just keep falling and falling and you would be forced to start over
its has the same gameplay effect as layering the ground with mines (sorta)
but it could lend so many atmosphere possibilities into the world of mapping.
2. i like your idea, Southpaw, but survivals wouldnt be a whole lot of fun in-game in my opinion unless there were highscore submitting options and multiplayer options.

Removing the borders was possible in one of the previous versions of N. And it wouldn't be very awesome, because you could really control the levels properly, especially with moving enemies.eganic wrote:1. i dunno if this is even possible, but wouldnt borderless maps be awesome?

I've seen this pic of n+. It's got some cool features on Play Game. That's something that I think should be added to 1.5! Here 's ths pic :)
