Are scrimmages supposed to be here...?
You work things out via pm. You should read the rules about it.
I don't think there's a thread for that yet, and i dont want to challenge a particular person but someone ranndome

I know but I still think you start the challenge somewhere else.

I completely disagree. New mapmakers haven't encountered classic maps to use as a standard, as it were. And if I recall correctly, anyone could sign up to be a judge; Pheidi didn't ask for "experienced" players.

yere, well i wouldn't say i was the most experienced person to have become a judge, but i can still do it as i know what a good map is and isn't.
And while we're on that topic, here's another idea, but this one is pretty radical. Anonymous map submission. Challengers send their map data to Pheid, he sends the judges their maps for the week, no title or author or description other than the gym it is challenging, they judge, and send back a score. Nothing becomes public until after the map is scored and you are made aware of your win/loss. Then you can submit it to numa and post it in the thread or what have you. Or Pheid can just post in the challenge thread at the end of the week with who challenged what and who won and who lost. Seriously though, challenger anonimity is the way to go if you're looking for total fairness from the judges.
i think this would be a pointless waste of time. it is easy to tell with some maps who their made by, you can tell if its a GTM map for example. so by doing this you eliminate some possiblity, but whose saying judges base their scores on the author. i sure as hell dont.

anyway, i liked your judging idea earlier, where we get assigned maps by Phedi randomly when we have the time (i free pretty much all week - although i have less time on a friday than i would like).

While some people can be good at judging the value of a map from the start, I think that for most people it does take a while to rationalize their views on maps.

I didn't say new mapmakers, I just said less time in and around the numa deathfields. Plenty of people make and play userlevels on N way before joining.

rocket_thumped's gym says to use exactly 6 zap drones. Does that include or exclude seeker drones?

That includes seeker drones. You could have 4 normal zap drones and 2 seekers, 3 and 3, etc. Any six zap drones.

I'd just like to take the opportunity to say this: I absolutely love this competition. This morning, despite finals, I took a browse through the numerous submissions to this contest. One thing I realized is that Neditor Nation really brings out the best in many mapmakers. I have rarely seen this quality of map consistently on NUMA.

So despite the bickering and complaints, which I admit I have been part of, I have loved judging this contest so far. We should remember how much work it takes to run all this and enjoy it instead of spending our time nitpicking. Thanks so much, Pheidi, for an excellent competition.

Nope, only if you aren't used to it. ;D

I've had this question in the back of my head for a while..
You are allowed to be idle right? You just don't go up in standings and such?

On the topic of advantages over gym leaders, I'd like to throw out an idea:
Challengers can obtain demo bonuses (as they currently are) against gym leaders, but not on their first challenge against a gym leader.

Really though, this would require additional work to keep track of while the benefit is unclear and/or debatable. In any case, there are always those people who take their time in RPGs, leveling up a little more than they need to so that they can be a little ahead of the game come crunch time (i.e. gym leader challenge).

Erm.... uh oh.

PS: This contest has inspired me to play through some of the Pokemon games, even though I'm taking a lot of shit for it.

I recently whipped out Gold Version (still saves, surprisingly) and have been playing it on my first game boy pocket, but this contest didn't have much to do with it. Maybe it did subconsciously? But I usually get totally into retro stuff at least once a year anyway.

I've never taken shit for still playing Pokemon. Maybe it's because I have real friends who secretly wish that they were half as cool as the guy who still plays Pokemon. I am the envy of the schoolyard, rollin' down the hall with my level twelve Charmander and schooling Brock in the court. The ladies simply can't take the heat. Teachers find excuses to freshen up my grades when I clear Rock Tunnel without Flash, and glitching the shit out of Cinnabar Island during lunch with my bros earns me enough respect cred to cut periods six through eight. My AAAs bring all of the home dogs to the commons, word up to the truth.

No seriously, there should be a scrimmage thread. For when people want to challenge someone non-specifically. And people could also say that they'd be willing to judge other scrimmages, and it would just be easier for everyone to work together.

What are the cons?

I think the only con of you put it that way is that there would be 4 threads for this competition and i can get kinda confusing at some times

Aw man!
Mine stopped saving years ago--I have to run 'em all off VBA on my computer. And I most definitely dominated Rock Tunnel yesterday without Flash. I was quite proud.

Nice, but what is flash? I never got that tm. Just kidding, but in silver, I once beat Mt Silver (the last cave with Red in it) without flash because I didn't want to handicap one of my power roster.

Yeah, I play the hardcore way--once through without walkthroughs etc, for fun, and then again with the best Pokemon and items, getting everything. God those games are fun.

Maybe we should stop talking about Pokemon in the Neditor Nation discussion thread...

Not until I've had my say. Once I get to the second half of the school year, I'm picking up my Crystal version. I'm going all-out on that. I beat Silver ages ago with brute force (L100 Feraligatr - no rare candies, day care, or cheats; just training. a lot. - and Scizor, Lugia, Umbreon, and Azumarill all somewhere in the 70s). Now, I want to do it right. I'll let you know if I end up with a good team. :D

And now, Pokemon discussion in this thread has ended. If anyone makes a new thread in Gaming or somewhere, I'll gladly visit it and g33k out with all of you. ;P

Phiedi, I'd just like to say that I've all-golded all of the gyms. And that took ages. Man, I'm still reeling from Evil_Bob's no-jump map.

PM me all of the demos in a .txt file when you get the chance, so I can watch them and mark you down on the spreadsheet for having them. Be sure to say which demo goes with which map, too. Thanks.
