House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski

it really is a good read, despite the slightly elitist and generally mean fanbase surrounding it. i also recommend other things he has written

@Clovic and ATOB; Love the lists. Excellent books.

I really enjoyed The Fountainhead, even though it pushes its ideology down your throat a bit. One day after finishing it i thought it was the best book ever. One week later i thought it was brilliant. Now, a few months on, i remember it fondly, as one remembers a summer romance. :D

My favourite piece of writing of all time is definitely the Gormenghast Trilogy, by Mervyn Peake.

Fountainhead is the same philosophy as presented in Sword of Truth (If you didn't already know) so if you liked that you will like SoT. It gets preachy, but it also gets fucking awesome.

Also, I would like to really strongly recommend Martin and Russell to anyone who likes the fantasy genre even a little bit. The Swan's War trilogy is a barely-heard-of high fantasy tale that is just incredible for how little popularity he has. And then Martin is just an absolutely astounding writer. He can write a high fantasy tale with no magic and glue you to the pages.
