I recommend:

My two fave bands at the moment are sorta well known. The first is Breaking Benjamin, and I've been a (completely obsessed) fan of them for a good two years now. Three songs I'd recommend are Diary of Jane, Breath and Unknown Soldier.
The second is Bullet For My Valentine. Tears Don't Fall is probably their biggest song, but Waking the Demon is by far their best (and a good video too).

One awesome song is Polka by Yves Klein Blue, a little known Brisbane band. Coldplay, Disturbed and DragonForce's knew albums are all awesome. Paramore's contribution to the Twilight album is surprisingly good. DJ Execute has a bunch of awesome techno songs available for free on his website.

I'll post some more good bands/songs once my iTune starts working again. In the meantime, Robot Chicken!

Vampire Weekend
Ratatat
Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra and Tra-La-La Band (otherwise known as A Silver Mt. Zion)

BREAKDOWN:
Vampire Weekend is such a simple band but they pack such a punch. Their lyrics can sometimes be odd at first, but other than that they have their sound down. Their self-titled album doesn't sound repetitive, but some of their songs use similar progressions (though not the same) usually heard from the wind instruments that ties the album together in a wonderful way.
Suggested songs: Oxford Comma, A-Punk, Walcott

Ratatat may be old news to some but I just recently purchased their self-titled album and Classics. (lord_day said LP3 wasn't as good as the other two but I'll probably get it soon.) Driven by electric guitar, simple-sounding yet complex percussion, and funky yet catchy bass lines, this electronic sound has moments that make you want to sit and contemplate whatever comes to mind, while others make you want to get up and dance your heart out; and then some moments make you want to just rock with the song, no matter what you're doing. While a little repetitive at times, there are some songs that could fit into most every playlist.
Suggested songs: Kennedy, Nostrand, Breaking Away, Seventeen Years

A Silver Mt. Zion I know little about, as I only have their album Horses in the Sky, but it is one of the most beautiful and saddest albums that I own. LittleViking once told me that it is probably the saddest album he owns. With lyrics such as "And all i true love / is the light / in my sister's darling eyes," and, "when the world is sick / can no one be well? But I dreamt we was all beautiful and strong" you may be able to understand the sense of something lost that seems to echo throughout each song. It's definitely one of my favourite albums, but with an approximate average song length of somewhere around 10 minutes you'll need to set aside some time to give this a listen.

Hey, if no one's recommended Boards Of Canada... it's not really a band, but a friend told me about them and they're music is pretty cool. I'd probably classify it as electronic/instrumental combo, and ambient.

I've been wanting to buy a CD from them for ages, but when I can buy a fucking CD, one of two things happen:
- I (sadly) forget them
- It isn't on sale on the store

The second happens a lot more, even if they say "Oh, we had some times ago. Sure we'll receive more next a)month ; b) week; c) two months

The band I'm now listening and I highly, highly highly recommend is Tuxedomoon. They're one of the awesome-er bands I ever listened to.

Oh and The_Muffin_Man, yeah, Deep Purple are awesome.
