I've yet to watch The Wrestler, Wall-E, and Man on Wire, and a lot of others... I've been mostly focusing on music and quality TV this year.

I can top five (albeit at a stretch, I'm going with UK release dates here...)

FIVE iron man
FOUR in bruges
THREE no country for old men
TWO there will be blood
ONE the dark knight

lols, if NCFOM and TWBB are considered '08 films, they certainly make my list, but considering they've already won their Oscars for 2007, I didn't consider them.

I know, but I found 2008 too dry to play by the proper rules. I'll cut my cacti where I can.

The Wrestler isn't even out yet is it? I sure do love Aronofsky, his work is always astounding and I'm hoping for an amazing movie. Pi, The Fountain, Requiem; all 3 masterpieces.

So basically, my question is: How good is it, /really/?

Haven't seen too many new movies this year, but Wall-E is definitely the best. I've also really liked Twilight, and Horton Hears A Who.

It is, in my opinion, the best Aronofsky yet. It's almost... funny. It's hard to explain, really, but it's surely his masterpiece, which is saying something considering The Fountain was already the overbudget-ed masterpiece and Requiem was already the powerful masterpiece (And yeah, Pi was the "black-and-white is cool" masterpiece), but this is just fantastic. I saw it at a little film fest thing that went down in the city last week.

11/10 stars.

And before I grace you with my list, what's up, you guys didn't like Pineapple Express?

All you gotta do to get off all that stress is *duh*duh* get some...Pineapple...Express

And I'm going to do 15, instead of 10, because I want to.

Anyone who hasn't heard of Mongol or The Air I Breathe, you need to go watch them now. Seriously.

And my list:

Mongol
The Air I breathe
Horton Hears a Who
Burn After Reading
Get Smart
Pineapple Express
Semi-pro
Batman
Saw V
Mirrors

Honorable Mentions:

Wall-E - 2 hours of the first half of this movie and it would be top 3. The end, you know with the humans and all the fat people, yeah, that sucked. I realize they were making a point, but I liked the points they were making better when Wall-E was exploring and being hilarious.

Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian - Really good, but just barely misses out in my opinion

Strange Wilderness - HILARIOUS movie, definitely recommended

The Forbidden Kingdom - Pretty silly, but that's a lot of its charm

Be Kind Rewind - This movie gets major originality points, plus it is hilarious.

Sex Drive - Surprisingly funny, go see it if you haven't, you may be surprised.

Kung Fu Panda - Fun and hilarious

Tropic Thunder - With all the hype, it should have been even funnier, but it was a riot nonetheless..."We gotta hurry, they'll wake up in 16 hours!"

Wow. Strong words sir. I will have to see it for myself.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008_in_fi ... 8_releases
  • 1. Charlie Bartlett - the plot is terrific.
    2. Yesman - Jim Carrey + Zooey Deschanel = <3
    3. Sex Drive - HAHA!
    4. The Dark Knight - why so serious?
    5. Step Brothers - Will Ferrel can sing? Wow.
    6. Tropic Thunder - three funny guys in a funny movie.
    7. Role Models - McLovin strikes again.
    8. Iron Man - the best special effects of 2008.
    9. Kung Fu Panda - Jack Black is meant to be animated.
Honorable Mentions:
  • Wanted - too surreal to be believable
  • Pineapple Express - not my type of humor
  • Death Race - too violent for me
  • Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist - too romantic
  • Eagle Eye - too predictable

My final top ten list for 2008 contains zero movies. Absolutely none. Granted, I haven't seen some of the potential high points like Milk, Man on Wire, and Burn After Reading.

I'll tell you what's not on my list: The Day the Earth Stood Still. The animation and Keanu were the only good things in it (although granted, they were pretty sweet), but that didn't make up for it's other misgivings.

Alphabetically:

Burn After Reading
Cloverfield
The Dark Knight
The Fall
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
Religulous
Son of Rambow
Synecdoche, New York
W.
WALL-E

I saw way less '08 movies this year then I thought, thus the strange mix blockbuster and art-house pictures.

It was pretty good. I would recommend it, although it does have a similar feel to Liar Liar.

Slumdog Millionaire was really good, and I notice that only Calcy mentioned it. I assume most people probably didn't see it though.
