Mine:
The Beatles. Music begins and ends there.
Dylan, the Police, Marvin Gaye, the Stones, Beach Boys, James Brown, Ray Charles, Chuck Berry, the Who.
Hendriz and Van Halen, Van Morrison and Paul Simon.
Lots of old stuff. So comment.

Talk about whatever is on your mind, if it doesn't go anywhere else.

Most of my music has an "acquired taste" about it that most people can't stand but that I love. Any music that is weird or off the radar of constructing a conventional song is something that I'm more keen to listen to. This is why I have a love for electronic music in the vein of Crystal Castles and Boards of Canada. I fall easily for experimental artists like Our Brother the Native and Animal Collective. Most of my music tastes involve some form of uniqueness that I don't hear in classic rock songs or just rock songs in general. AC/DC is one of my least favourite bands because I cannot stand the majority of their songs that sound EXACTLY the same as the others.
Songs that sound formulated are the worst songs, IMO.

In my eyes, the greatest rock music in the world was produced by The Who.
But they aren't my favorite band, because I'm not that big of a rock guy.
I like Weezer, so says my 12gb collection of Weezer music. (And they only have six stuido albums, so if that's all mp3's (it is), imagine the amount of weezer SlappyMcGee has.)
I love The Shins.
The Arcade Fire are ten minutes away, sometimes, what with me living next door to their home. Also good.
Boston's Boston is an amazing album.
It's hard to discuss music.
I totally agree on the AC/DC thing, though. They're tired.
Oh, and on the Van Halen front. I've seen them live twice. Once, Eddie was drunk and Sammy Hagar was the singer. Worst show I've seen. The second time, DLR was back and everyone was clean, and that show was the best I've seen by far. Well, not by far. Iggy Pop was pretty amazing too, but needless to say, I'm a Van Halen fan sans Sammy Hagar.

I don't want to listen to the same old drudge fest each time; I just got their album for Christmas and the 11th and 12th tracks sound exactly the same, at least the intros. A little, vaired drudge fest is what I like imo :P
That said, that's why Muse is one of my favorite bands; practically every song is unique. I can't think of two songs in Black Holes and Revelations that are the same in even the slightest respects. And yes, I did get both albums for Christmas :P
Also, I'm pretty sure that most internet forum users involve themselves in music. What else to brighten up the display?

Black Holes and Revelations is an amazing album! Muse can be added to my scattered list on the grounds of that singular album.GTM wrote:+1, Fix'dManus Australis wrote:Disturbed is one of my least favourite bands because I cannot stand the majority of their songs that sound EXACTLY the same as the others.

I play the drums, and like to think I am pretty good.
The best concert I ever went to was a TV On The Radio concert. The venue was tiny, and I got right to the front for the whole concert. They played every song I love, and I got to shake the singer's hand.
I wish I could sing, but I have an awful singing voice.
My favourite band that I discovered this year is Gang Gang Dance. I heard it first on Myrrhman's radio show.
That about covers it. ;)

I've also been blasting Animal Collectives Merriweather Post Pavilion since it leaked yesterday (the best xmas gift ever) and man, they really outdid themselves.
The sound is so big, dense, and huge, but it's not just a streamlined version of their sound, no, they're really pushing themselves. It's like if The Beach Boys decided to record a hip-hop album. Utterly gorgeous, sonically deep, and imaginative stuff.
I would love to know other people's opinion on it.

I love Rush; they may not be in my favorite genre, but they're extremely talented. My favorite band is System of a Down, especially their albums Toxicity and Steal This Album!. Their last two albums disappointed me because they became less diverse in their music; I think it's good that they took a break. They needed it, although I'd like to see them come back eventually ;_;Slayr wrote:WHERE ARE ALL THE RUSH FANS!?!?!?!

This Mortal Coil - This is the real one, the one I really like, the one I know the songs, the one I love, the one... it's gone.
Tuxedomoo - jazz+rock+lotsa violins+ "seems like this mortal coil but it isn't" = strangely beautiful musics
Some dEUS - Rock/Alternative/Pop music. The older the albums are, the better.
Some Sigur Rós - Getting tired of them, but still, it has the happiest songs of all times, the one that cheers me up when I need (lot of times): Hoppippola.
A little bit of Grant Green (guitar jazz) - Go with the music, dance to the rhythm, do an air guitar, do sounds with your voice, when listening to it.
Calexico, with those jazz+mexican(?) mix, wonderful musicians.
The Doors - Love me two times baby, love me twice today;People are Strange; My eyes have seen you. They're...great. ROCK YA HAIR!
Deep Purple - "There once was a woman, a strange kind of woman" Again, great, with that old rock style, love them.
Gorillaz - better than they seem, really. They seemed like another group of DJ's, but they really have great sounds.
Franz Ferdinand - I sing them in the shower, when I'm damn crazy.
Hanne Hukkelberg - She's awesome, with a different style of music.
As it's too late to discuss something now, I'll try to look at your posts a little bit more, and then discuss a little.
