Today's recommendation. (And the first one)

Charles Bukoswki

Book: All, including poems.

This famous character is famous emphasising on the ordinary lives of marginalized poor American Whites, the act of writing, alcohol, relationships with women, the drudgery of work, and horseracing.

Even though I read his books in spanish, I know that this poet is great.

WARNING:

Bukowski's literature can be very aggressive.

Drugs, Alcohol, Sex and Insults to the American culture are included.

( Sorry if anyone is felling his culture is being attacked)

Via my loving Tan Tan (Entwilight), anything by Haruki Murakami is fantastic. Also, try not to say in three posts what you could say in one.

China Mieville, batshit insane dark fantasy, incredibly creative. His writing is actually brilliant as well, which is uncommon in most modern fantasy.

I don't read enough to have a real favourite author or book, but The Hobbit (by J. R. R. Tolkien) has a special place in my heart because it was the first book that really got me into reading proper fiction novels.

Off the top of my head, the two books I've enjoyed most would be Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro and House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski. Two very different and very unforgettable books.

I second Qix's suggestion, anything by Terry Pratchett is great.
Also second KinGAleX's suggestion, Haruki Murakami's short stories are amazing.

Tolkien! I tried to finish one of his books but all that fantasy drove me crazy.

But he's good and I think the lord of the rings trilogy does fit to the books.

I read way too much to have a favorite book. Right now I'm reading Dark as Day. I can't remember the author, but it's pretty good so far.

Gah, triple posting! Note to you: "edit" button.

I've just read To Kill A Mockingbird, and Of Mice And Men for English. I both enjoyed both books, especially the end of To Kill A Mockingbird, which brought together the whole story.
