You're the one with 7,593 votes.
However, I agree; HotMaps should be changed.
For people like me, who are honestly trying to make good maps, but don't get noticed, Hot Maps is completely screwed up; once "famous" people post maps, everone pays attention to them, and we get forgotten. So what about a seperate hotmaps page for people with over 75 rated maps or something?

And I suppose these "famous" people started mapping in a completely different situation to you? If you're good enough you get noticed, everyone starts on a level playing field on numa. These people are only famous because they tend to make good maps, and people are going to pay more attention to good maps regardless.Minion_of_Pi wrote:Hot Maps is completely screwed up; once "famous" people post maps, everone pays attention to them, and we get forgotten.

Or you could try making some art on there using the in-game objects and tiles. I know it sounds stupid, but who knows; you might get famous.Erik-Player wrote:Not only that, but it's an archive for maps.PALEMOON wrote:it's an archive.Kablizzy wrote:What's NUMA?

What about finding some midway between public ratings and none at all? I.e, private ratings. That is, people can rate the map, but they won't be archived (or at the very least only viewable to the author) and only truly affect the float/sink scenario. That way, ratings would be based on how much people wanted to see a map get attention rather than embody their opinion on a number. If no-one can see that number, they'll have to give more substantial feedback.
Any feedback? Also, don't snipe this post.

Heheh... you can't snipe posts. I was kidding; you obviosuly didnt see the context.deltainferno wrote:can i ask, what is 'sniping' a post or map about?
Also, look at the FAQs on NUMA; the final section explains it all.

hot maps is fine the way it is, its active authors that needs a lot of work.
and after that work is done, moved to the default "maps" page

I think the best thing to do would be turn Active Authors back into New Maps, and format it in a better way. And rework the system that drives so that a map must be well rated before it even appears on the page, then Active Authors and Hot Maps will both be fulfilling their intended function.
Or get rid of Hot Maps and bring back bite-sizing, which also displayed the best recent maps. And with much less emphasis on ratings.

I wasn't here when bitesizing was still around, but maybe we could have both bitesizing and featuring, unless that's already been done.wolfgang wrote:I think the best thing to do would be turn Active Authors back into New Maps, and format it in a better way. good idea. i think there should be a hot maps page for good rated and a new maps page that shows maps as they come in, regardless of ratings

I dont think that would solve the problem, as for three reasonsMinion_of_Pi wrote: So what about a seperate hotmaps page for people with over 75 rated maps or something?
1. Many NUMA Members Dont have 75 maps, though all theyre maps are still rated, or a fair amount of them.
2. If that happened, nobody would check the lower quality hot maps page, because they would be looking for a decent map.
3. Maps would still be booted off top spot, due to the better of the worse, if you understand me.

Hah. When it was first introduced, a bunch of people were complaining that there wasn't enough weight on highly-rated maps and the highly-rated maps didn't stay there long enough.maxson924 wrote:Agreed. It's not that Hot Maps itself is bad, but N-arts, highly-rated maps, etc. get way too much weight on their position than they should.atob wrote:I agree that hotmaps is horribly imbalanced right now. It's a good idea that needs some tweaking.

if any of you can do python, pm arachnid. there is a thread about this.
it will help if you know python.
also: there should be a new maps page sorted into rating classes, and a hot maps page with *hot maps*
i already said that, but the classes should be:
0-50 rated maps
51-100 rm
100-150 rm
150-200 rm
200+ rm
____________
then we'd get to look at the well known, the not so well known, and your average numa-er

i looked at half the posts, got bored and began this post
zeroth, the hot map page has bad organization: enough said
first, there shound be a way to look at the newest of EACH type, as in a separate page fo reach DDA, n-art, adventure, races, etc.
that way, if your interested in the latest n-arts, u know where to look, etc.
it elimenates all the problems i read about.
maybe there could be a hot map page as there is now...
then any maps that are rated 5 times or more to be public, then moderators look at it.
the moderators sort the map to one of the pages as above
then the map can stay there for a long while.

there should definitely be a seprate "archive" for Narts and DDAs. also, there should be a new maps page. featured is good, but you only get one a day...ratings are bad, comments are better. bitesizing should come back
N maps are art...you don't RATE art, you tell them how to make it better next time around...
*sits down*

Maybe because other people posted their maps? And I don't know what you're talking about; I disable ratings (so naturally, my maps fall off faster), yet my maps consistently stay on the first page for 1.5-2 hours.Tunco123 wrote:I hate that!!!!Today I posted a map which I have been working on for 2 weeks and half an hour I posted it,my map is at no longer at the first page.....ARRGH!!!! :(
