I have many favourite lyrics, but at the moment I love extremely poetic lyrics. I don't know, some could think it pretentious, but that's moot argument because they're only pretentious if you act that way when quoting them...
It's 3:57 in the morning, I know it 'cause I just passed by a payphone that told me so.
It caught my attention because it rang about 3 or 4 times, I'm not sure?
(Anyway... I didn't answer...)

I was way too drunk and lost into "Ulver's Perdition City"
To truly acknowledge what was going on.

And prior to that particular insignificance, I had lost all senses of time & space

(I'm alone and the subway docks are empty, completely deserted by the Metropolis's natives
Closing my eyes for a second, I could've sworn I heard tumbleweeds, rolling on the other side of the track... )

Then I saw a girl, only a child to my poor tired eyes,
Running after what might have been fragments of my life...
Porcelain doll, a permanent scar on the smooth face of Depression.

(The phone is ringing again, breaking trough my illusions,
Leaving me to witness an impenetrable view upon boredom itself.
Could this call save me?
Is it salvation on the other end of the line?
Or just a mere attempt to disturb my concentration?
Still, this will have to wait.)

It shines; I'm sore and inspired...
Scribbled upon the wall, you can easily read; Amy was here, 07-12-1980
Answering, I simply wrote back; Hope was here... and quickly left, 02-10-2005

I've narrowed it down to its simplest core.
And I know what's required of me now...
There are no parallels in my mind... no subtleties.

And how come this phone is still ringing?
It'll be the last time and I'll still ignore it completely.

For once I think I'll be noticed, by doing something concrete & visible,
As of tomorrow... hundreds of humans will be late for work.
Ion Dissonance - Shut Up, I'm Trying To Worry

So, post yours! Also welcome is discussion of the meaning of some lyrics.

Man I've got so many sets of favourite lyrics. I guess I'll go by genre, though. Prog favourite lyrics would be Turn of the Century, by Yes. Pop favourite lyrics would be You Can Call Me Al, by Paul Simon. Indie rock favourite lyrics would be Dangerous Woman Up to a Point, by Destroyer. But I think, overall, I'm going to go with Breadcrumb Trail, by Slint:
I stepped out onto the midway.
I was looking for the pirate ship and saw this small, old tent at one end.
It was blue, and had white lights hanging all around it.
I decided to check out the tent, it seemed I could hear music coming from inside.
As I walked toward it, I passed a crowd of people at the sideshow.
I couldn't figure out why they would want to wait in line.
I pulled back the drape thing on the tent.
There was a crystal ball at the table, and behind it, a girl wearing a hat.
She smiled, and asked me if I wanted my fortune read.
I said okay, and sat down.
I thought about it for a minute, and asked her if she would rather go on the roller coaster instead.

Creeping up into the sky.
Stopping, at the top and, starting down.
The girl grabbed my hand, I clutched it tight.
I said good-bye to the ground.

Far below, a soiled man.
A bucket of torn tickets at his side.
He watches as the children run by.
And picks his teeth.
Spinning 'round, my head begins to turn.
I shouted, and searched the sky for a friend.
I heard the fortune teller, screaming back at me.
We stuck out our hands, and met the winds.

The girl falters as she steps down from the platform.
She clutches her stomach, and begins to heave.
The ticket-taker smiles, and the last car is ready.
Who told you that you could leave?

The sun was setting by the time we left.
We walked across the deserted lot, alone.
We were tired, but we managed to smile.
And the gate I said goodnight to the fortune teller.
The carnival sign threw colored shadows on her face, but I could tell she was blushing.
The last line is my favourite! I think it's popped up in my MSN name at least three times on completely separate occasions.

As to yours, Borealis, definitely poetic, probably to the same degree as mine. The last line in yours is particularly memorable too. Very striking. And quite interesting, although not enough of a story for me. I really like long stories, not open-ended ones.

The song is "I'm Not Over" by Caroline Liar
What a waste of time, the thought crossed my mind
But I never missed a beat
Can't explain the who or what I was
Trying to believe
What would you do?
What would you do?
Do you know?
I once had a grip on everything
It feels better to let go

I'm not over
I'm not over you just yet
Cannot hide it
You're not that easy to forget
I'm not over

Never took the chance, could've jump the fence
I was scared of my own two feet
Couldn't cross the line, it was black and white
No contrast to be seen
What would you do?
What would you do?
Do you know?
Was it all a joke, never had control
I'm not better on my own

I'm not over
I'm not over you just yet
Cannot hide it
You're not that easy to forget
I'm not over

What a waste of time
The thought crossed my mind
Can't explain this thing, or what I mean
I'm trying to let go

I'm not over
I'm not over you just yet
Cannot hide it
You're not that easy to forget
I'm not over
I'm not over you just yet
Cannot hide it
You're not that easy to forget
I'm not over
I'm not over
What it means to me is that you really want a girl, but keep it inside for so long, then once she's gone you realize she was "the one"

Very nice, KingAlex, I like that last line as well.

"Doorsteps" by Lodger.
[Bring me my raincoat
And a cup of something warm, yeah]

Smoking cigarettes at your doorsteps
Looking like I don't care
Trying to act younger but I'm four years older
Red stripes hanging overhead
I'm no good for you
And you know it too

Getting stoned, getting fat, in your rented flat
Staring at the tv screen
Sweating cold turkey and a funny hat
Most annoying show you've ever seen

I'm no good for you
and you know it too
There’s a limit to what nature can do
I'm no good for you
and you know it too

Smoking cigarettes at your doorsteps
Sticking here like glue
Another one aimless fight
But no one's got the right to turn your pink world blue
I'm no good for you
and you know it too

There’s a limit to what nature can do
There’s a limit to what nature can do
There’s a limit to what nature can do
There’s a limit to what nature can do
<smartalco> man, you have just been accelerated to a whole new level of awesome, raven

Twisted, vivid, and almost dream-like imagery is the name of the game.

"Holland 1945" by Neutral Milk Hotel.
Neutral Milk Hotel wrote:The only girl I've ever loved
Was born with roses in her eyes
But then they buried her alive
One evening, 1945
With just her sister at her side
And only weeks before the guns
All came and rained on everyone
Now she's a little boy in Spain
Playing pianos filled with flames
On empty rings around the sun
All sing to say my dream has come

But now we must pick up every piece
Of the life we used to love
Just to keep ourselves
At least enough to carry on

And now we ride the circus wheel
With your dark brother wrapped in white
Says it was good to be alive
But now he rides a comet's flame
And won't be coming back again
The Earth looks better from a star
That's right above from where you are
He didn't mean to make you cry
With sparks that ring and bullets fly
On empty rings around your heart
The world just screams and falls apart

But now we must pick up every piece
Of the life we used to love
Just to keep ourselves
At least enough to carry on

And here's where your mother sleeps
And here is the room where your brothers were born
Indentions in the sheets
Where their bodies once moved but don't move anymore
And it's so sad to see the world agree
That they'd rather see their faces fill with flies
All when I'd want to keep white roses in their eyes
My favorite line is "and only weeks before the guns all came and rained on everyone". It's such a curious and surreal way to describe something like World War II. Fantastic band, fantastic song, fantastic lyrics.

My Favourite Band is muse basically because of the lyrics and my fav lyrics are starlight so here they are
Far away
The ship is taking me far away
Far away from the memories
Of the people who care if I live or die

Starlight
I will be chasing the starlight
Until the end of my life
I don't know if it's worth it anymore

Hold you in my arms
I just wanted to hold
You in my arms

My life
You electrify my life
Let's conspire to ignite
All the souls that would die just to feel alive

But I'll never let you go
If you promised not to fade away
Never fade away

Our hopes and expectations
Black holes and revelations
Our hopes and expectations
Black holes and revelations

Hold you in my arms
I just wanted to hold
You in my arms

Far away
The ship is taking me far away
Far away from the memories
Of the people who care if I live or die

And I'll never let you go
If you promise not to fade away
Never fade away

Our hopes and expectations
Black holes and revelations
Our hopes and expectations
Black holes and revelations

Hold you in my arms
I just wanted to hold
You in my arms
I just wanted to hold

"Bone Marrow" - Protest the Hero

I've been really into them lately.
Thus now he knelt before the ruins,
cold of sweat, heat of flame
to vow the severed heads
Of those who brought the village, the village to its shame.
Those who plundered,pilfered, pillaged lives
would now accept the blame.

He would find them all
with a mighty vengeance paid for in their pain

Shah-jan, the king of kings
wore seven rings and 60 feathers
Plucked from sparrow's wings

Growing fat on the throne,
He sat like a stone.
A man who had never known
No hunger, shown no mercy with
In promises broke like a bone.

And there he sat like a stone,
With promises broke like a bone
Dispersed about the people
rostam calls out for his equals

in third to rise and cast curse
is that the worst of vengeance
enemies they roam the tree's
is that the worst of vengeance

The royalty must die, the royalty must die, the royalty must die
The royalty must die like common beggars and petty thieves
The royalty must die like common beggars and petty thieves

Tomorrow they will find us
Oh God, Oh God, Oh God
Heads of children will roll

Thus know he knelt before the ruins
Cold of sweat, heat of flame
He found the severed heads, he found the severed heads
Of those who brought the village, the village to its shame.

The king of kings wore
Seven rings and 60 feathers
Plucked from sparrows’ wings.

He’s growing fat, growing fat on the throne
Where he sat like a stone
A man who has never known no hunger
Shown no mercy

Those who ride against us
Will be murdered where they stand
let our arrows rain from sky
To drain the blood into the land

If a mortal stands before us
Strike him down with sleight of hand
And if heaven rides against us then
God himself then must be damned.

No favourite lyrics yet - I like too much music to decide.

Some awesome ones are from the Lion King, Aladdin, stuff by Tom Lehrer, "Tonight" by Elton John... lots of stuff. Also some things by Weird Al, because they're funny.

i write lyrics for my band so im a total freak when it comes to listening to something goood.

counting crows. round here. gotta love adam duritz

Round Here lyrics
Step out the front door like a ghost

into the fog where no one notices

the contrast of white on white.

And in between the moon and you

the angels get a better view

of the crumbling difference between wrong and right.

I walk in the air between the rain

through myself and back again

Where? I don't know

Maria says she's dying

through the door I hear her crying

Why? I don't know

[Chorus]

Round here we always stand up straight

Round here something radiates

Maria came from Nashville with a suitcase in her hand

she said she'd like to meet a boy who looks like Elvis

she walks along the edge of where the ocean meets the land

just like she's walking on a wire in the circus

she parks her car outside of my house

takes her clothes off

says she's close to understanding Jesus

she knows she's just a little misunderstood

she has trouble acting normal when she's nervous

[Chorus:]

Round here we're carving out our names

Round here we all look the same

Round here we talk just like lions

But we sacrifice like lambs

Round here she's slipping through my hands

Sleeping children better run like the wind

out of the lightning dream

Mama's little baby better get herself in

out of the lightning

She says It's only in my head

She says Shhh I know it's only in my head

But the girl in car in the parking lot

says "Man you should try to take a shot

can't you see my walls are crumbling?"

Then she looks up at the building

and says she's thinking of jumping

She says she's tired of life

she must be tired of something

Round here she's always on my mind

Round here hey man got lots of time

Round here we're never sent to bed early

And nobody makes us wait

Round here we stay up very, very, very, very late

Brick - Ben Folds Five
6am day after christmas
I throw some clothes on in the dark
The smell of cold
Car seat is freezing
The world is sleeping
I am numb

Up the stairs to her apartment
She is balled up on the couch
Her mom and dad went down to Charlotte
They're not home to find us out
And we drive
Now that I have found someone
I'm feeling more alone
Than I ever have before

She's a brick and I'm drowning slowly
Off the coast and I'm headed nowhere
She's a brick and I'm drowning slowly

They call her name at 7:30
I pace around the parking lot
Then I walk down to buy her flowers
And sell some gifts that I got
Can't you see
It's not me you're dying for
Now she's feeling more alone
Than she ever has before

She's a brick and I'm drowning slowly
Off the coast and I'm headed nowhere
She's a brick and I'm drowning slowly

As weeks went by
It showed that she was not fine
They told me, "son, it's time to tell the truth"

She broke down, and I broke down
Cause I was tired of lying

Driving back to her apartment
For the moment we're alone
Yeah she's alone
I'm alone
Now I know it

She's a brick and I'm drowning slowly
Off the coast and I'm headed nowhere
She's a brick and I'm drowning slowly
Great song. Just one favourite off the top of my head anyway.

I love these lyrics from "The Lighthouse's Tale" by Nickel Creek
I am a lighthouse worn by the weather and the waves
I keep my lamp lit to warn the sailors on their way
I'll tell a story, paint you a picture from my past
I was so happy but joy in this life seldom lasts

I had a keeper, he helped me warn the ships at sea
We had grown closer 'til his joy meant everything to me
And he was to marry a girl who shown with beauty and light
They loved each other, and with me watched the sunsets into nights

And the waves crashing around me
The sand slips out to sea
And the winds that blow remind me
Of what has been and what can never be

She'd had to leave us; my keeper, he prayed for a safe return
But when the night came, the weather to a raging storm had turned
He watched her ship fight, but in vain against the wild and terrible wind
And me so helpless, as dashed against the rocks she met her end

And the waves crashing around me
The sand slips out to sea
And the winds that blow remind me
Of what has been and what can never be

Then on the next day, my keeper found her washed up on the shore
He kissed her cold face, and that they'd be together soon he swore
I saw him crying, watched as he buried her in the sand
Then he climbed my tower, and off the edge of me he ran

And the waves crashing around me
The sand slips out to sea
And the winds that blow remind me
Of what has been and what can never be

I am a lighthouse worn by the weather and the waves
And though I'm empty I still warn the sailors on their way
"I'm going to live forever, or die trying."

Yummy Yummy
Yummy, Yummy, Yummy.
I got love in my tummy,
And I feel like a-lovin you:
Love, you're such a sweet thing,
Good enough to eat thing
And that's just a-what I'm gonna do.
Ooh love, to hold ya,
Ooh love, to kiss ya,
Ooh love, I love it so.
Ooh love, you're sweeter,
Sweeter than sugar.
Ooh love, I wont let you go.

Yummy, Yummy, Yummy,
I got love in my tummy,
And as silly as it may seem;
The lovin' that you re giving,
is what keeps me livin'
And your love is like
Peaches and cream.
Kind-a like sugar,
Kind-a like spices,
Kind-a like, like what you do.
Kind-a sounds funny.
But love,honey
Honey. I love you.

Yummy, Yummy, Yummy,
I. got love in my tummy,
That your love can satisfy;
Love, you're such a sweet thing,
Good enough to eat thing
And sweet thing, that ain't no lie.
I love to hold ya,
Oh love, to kiss ya,
Ooh love, I love it so.
Ooh love, you're sweeter,
Sweeter than sugar.
Ooh love, I wont let you go.
and
Nancy, the tavern wench
I know of a tavern not far from here
Where you can get some mighty fine beer
The company's true and the wenches are pretty
It's the greatest damn place in the whole of the city
If you're looking for crewmates, you'll sure find 'em there
Cutthroats and lowlifes and worse I should dare
Ol' Nancy don't care who comes to her inn
It's a den of debauchery violence and sin

So come take a drink and drown your sorrows
And all of our fears will be gone til tomorrow
We'll have no regrets and live for the day
In Nancy's Harbour Cafe

So come take a drink and drown your sorrows
And all of our fears will be gone til tomorrow
We'll have no regrets and live for the day
In Nancy's Harbour Cafe

If you're looking to go on a glorious quest
There's a man there who knows of an old treasure chest
For some pieces of eight an a tankard of ale
He'll show ye the map and tell ye it's tale
And then there's Nancy, the lovely barmaiden
She may be old but her beauty ain't fading
Ol' nancy don't care who comes to her inn
It's a den of debauchery violence and sin

So come take a drink and drown your sorrows
And all of our fears will be gone til tomorrow
We'll have no regrets and live for the day
In Nancy's Harbour Cafe

So come take a drink and drown your sorrows
And all of our fears will be gone til tomorrow
We'll have no regrets and live for the day
In Nancy's Harbour Cafe

So come take a drink and drown your sorrows
And all of our fears will be gone til tomorrow
We'll have no regrets and live for the day
In Nancy's Harbour Cafe

So come take a drink and drown your sorrows
And all of our fears will be gone til tomorrow
We'll have no regrets and live for the day
In Nancy's Harbour Cafe

Silencer by mewithoutYou.
Don't waste your lips on words I've heard before
Kiss my tired head.
And each letter written wastes your hand, young man
Come and lead me to your bed
You gave me hope that I'd not lost her
And then thought it rather strange to see me smile-
as I don't do too much smiling these days.

She put on happiness like a loose dress
Over pain I'll never know
"So the peace you had," she says, "I must confess, I'm glad to see it go."
We're two white roses lying frozen just outside his door
I've made you so happy and so sad,
But which should I be more sorry for?

Come kiss my face goodbye, that space below my eye and above my cheek
Cause I'm faint and fading fast, I see a darkness
And I shall be released.
I'll pass like a fever from this body,
And softly slip into his hands
I tried to love you and I failed,
But I have another plan.

My Lord, how long to sing this song?
And my Lord, how much more of this pretending to be strong?
When she stands before your throne
Dressed in beauty not her own
All soft and small, you'll hear her call
"You brought me here, now take me home."

Bob Dylan is the king of lyrics, although I agree with the earlier post mentioning Paul Simon. Basically, there's too many too post, but here's Blowin' in the Wind

How many roads must a man walk down
Before you call him a man?
Yes, n how many seas must a white dove sail
Before she sleeps in the sand?
Yes, n how many times must the cannon balls fly
Before they're forever banned?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

How many times must a man look up
Before he can see the sky?
Yes, n how many ears must one man have
Before he can hear people cry?
Yes, n how many deaths will it take till he knows
That too many people have died?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

How many years can a mountain exist
Before its washed to the sea?
Yes, n how many years can some people exist
Before they're allowed to be free?
Yes, n how many times can a man turn his head,
Pretending he just doesn't see?
The answer, my friend, is blowin in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

Hurricane is good too.

Gastr Del Sol - The Seasons Reverse

September reverses and the equinoxes flip

Winter slides into fall

When glimpsed in leaps of nine months or more
The seasons reverse
They spring back and fall forward

They reshuffle when you touch down after long intervals

September reverses and the equinoxes flip
Summer becomes spring

The seasons reshuffle
At a span of a year and a half
September reverses and the equinoxes flip

They reshuffle when you touch down after long intervals

September reverses and the equinoxes flip
Winter slides into fall.

They shuffle because it’s been more than two years.
First seeing you in a snowbank.
Then a sweater
And then a sweater

They reshuffle with leaps of some time
Or reshuffle with leaps of distance

They reshuffle with leaps of some time
Or reshuffle with leaps of distance.

Oh I just have waaay too many. But currently:
Revelry - Kings of Leon wrote: What a night for a dance, you know I'm a dancing machine
With a fire in my bones and the sweet taste of kerosene
I get lost in the night so high I don't want to come down
To face the loss of the good thing that I've found

In the dark of the night I could hear you calling my name
With the hardest of hearts I still feel full of pain
So I drink and I smoke and I ask you if you're ever around
Even though it was me who drove us right in the ground

See the time we shared it was precious to me
But all the while I was dreaming of revelry

Born to run, baby run like a stream down a mountainside
With the wind in my back I don't ever even bat an eye
Just know it was you all along who had a hold of my heart
But the demon and me were the best of friends from the start

So the time we shared it was precious to me
All the while I was dreaming of revelry
Dreaming of revelry

And I told myself boy away you go, it rained so hard it felt like snow
Everything came tumbling down on me
In the back of the woods in the dark of the night
Paleness of the old moonlight everything just felt so incomplete

Dreaming of revelry
Dreaming of revelry
Dreaming of revelry
Dreaming of revelry

Aha! The best lyrics ever. A Simple Desultory Philippic, by Simon and Garfunkel. The end of that song is great. You hear this clunk, and then, in a really woozy voice, Paul Simon says, "I've lost my harmonica, Albert." He has no idea who he's even talking to. I laugh every time I hear this song.

I been Norman Mailered, Maxwell Taylored.
I been John O'Hara'd, McNamara'd.
I been Rolling Stoned and Beatled till I'm blind.
I been Ayn Randed, nearly branded
Communist, 'cause I'm left-handed.
That's the hand I use, well, never mind!

I been Phil Spectored, resurrected.
I been Lou Adlered, Barry Sadlered.
Well, I paid all the dues I want to pay.
And I learned the truth from Lenny Bruce,
And all my wealth won't buy me health,
So I smoke a pint of tea a day.

I knew a man, his brain was so small,
He couldn't think of nothing at all.
He's not the same as you and me.
He doesn't dig poetry. He's so unhip that
When you say Dylan, he thinks you're talking about Dylan Thomas,
Whoever he was.
The man ain't got no culture,
But it's alright, ma,
Everybody must get stoned.

I been Mick Jaggered, silver daggered.
Andy Warhol, won't you please come home?
I been mothered, fathered, aunt and uncled,
Been Roy Haleed and Art Garfunkeled.
I just discovered somebody's tapped my phone.

I lost my harmonica, Albert.

Tool - Right in Two
Angels on the sideline,
puzzled and amused.
Why did Father give these humans free will?
Now they're all confused.

Don't these talking monkeys know that Eden
has enough to go around?
Plenty in this holy garden.
Silly monkeys,
where there's one you're bound to divide it,
right in two.

Angels on the sideline,
baffled and confused.
Father blessed them all with reason
and this is what they choose?

Monkey killing monkey killing monkey
over pieces of the ground.
Silly monkeys,
give them thumbs they forge a blade
and where there's one they're bound to divide it,
right in two.

Monkey killing monkey killing monkey
over pieces of the ground.
Silly monkeys,
give them thumbs they make a club
and beat their brother down.

How they survive so misguided is a mystery.
Repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability
to live tonight in heaven,
conscious of his fleeting time here.

Cutting it all, right in two.
Cutting it all, right in two.
Cutting it all, right in two.
Cutting it all, right in two.

Fight over ground, over earth, over sky.
They fight over life, over blood, over air and light,
over love, over some, over none.
They fight or they die, Over what?
Over writing

Angels on the sideline again,
Benched along with patience and reason.
Angels on the sideline again,
Wondering where this tug of war will end.

Cutting it all, right in two.
Cutting it all, right in two.
Cutting it all, right in two.
Right in two

Right in two.

Alrighty, then ... picture this if you will.

10 to 2 AM, X, Yogi DMT, and a box of Krispy Kremes,
in my "need to know" pose, just outside of Area 51
Contemplating the whole "chosen people" thingy
when a flaming stealth banana split the sky
like one would hope but never really expect
to see in a place like this.
Cutting right angle donuts on a dime
and stopping right at my Birkenstocks,
and me yelping...

Holy fucking shit!

Then the X-Files being,
Looking like some kind of blue-green Jackie Chan
with Isabella Rossellini lips, and breath that reeked of
vanilla Chig Champa
Did a slow-mo Matrix descent
Outta the butt end of the banana vessel
And hovered above my bug-eyes, my gaping jaw,
and my sweaty L. Ron Hubbard upper lip,
and all I could think was:
"I hope Uncle Martin here doesn't notice
that I pissed my fuckin' pants."

So light in his way,
Like an apparition, [that]
He had me crying out,
"Fuck me
It's gotta be
the Deadhead Chemistry
The blotter got on top of me
Got me seein' E-motherfuckin'-T!"

And after calming me down
with some orange slices
and some fetal spooning,
E.T. revealed to me his singular purpose.
He said, "You are the Chosen One,
the One who will deliver the message.
A message of hope for those who choose to hear it
and a warning for those who do not."
Me. The Chosen One?
They chose me!!!
And I didn't even graduate from fuckin' high school.

You'd better...
You'd better...
You'd better...
You'd better listen.

Then he looked right through me
With somniferous almond eyes
Don't even know what that means
Must remember to write it down
This is so real
Like the time Dave floated away
See, my heart is pounding
'Cause this shit never happens to me

I can't breathe right now!

It was so real,
Like I woke up in Wonderland.
All sorta terrifying
I don't wanna be all alone
While I tell this story.
And can anyone tell me why
Y'all sound like Peanuts parents?
Will I ever be coming down?
This is so real
Finally, it's my lucky day
See, my heart is racing
'Cause this shit never happens to me

I can't breathe right now!

You believe me, don't you?
Please believe what I've just said!
See the Dead ain't touring
And this wasn't all in my head.
See, they took me by the hand
And invited me right in.
Then they showed me something
I don't even know where to begin.

Strapped down [to] my bed
Feet cold [and] eyes red
I'm out of my head
Am I alive? Am I dead?
Can't remember what they said
God damn, shit the bed.

Hey ...

Overwhelmed as one would be, placed in my position.
Such a heavy burden now to be the One
Born to bear and bring to all the details of our ending,
To write it down for all the world to see.

But I forgot my pen
Shit the bed again ...
Typical.

Strapped down [to] my bed
Feet cold and eyes red
I'm out of my head
Am I alive? Am I dead?
Sunkist * and Sudafed
Gyroscopes and infrared
Won't help, I'm brain dead
Can't remember what they said
God damn, shit the bed

I can't remember what they said to me
Can't remember what they said to make me out to be the hero
Can't remember what they said
Bob help me!
Can't remember what they said

[We] don't know, [and we] won't know (x12)

God damn, shit the bed!

And while we're on a 10,000 Days run, here's The Pot by Tool.
Who are you to wave your finger?
You must have been outta your head
Eye hole deep in muddy waters
You practically raised the dead

Rob the grave to snow the cradle
Then burn the evidence down
Soapbox house of cards and glass so
Don't go tossin' your stones around

You must have been high
You must have been high
You must have been

Foot in mouth and head up ass-hole
Whatcha talkin' 'bout?
Difficult to dance 'round this one
'til you pull it out, boy

You must have been so high
You must have been so high

Steal, borrow, refer, save your shady inference
Kangaroo done hung the jury with the innocent

Now you're weeping shades of cozened indigo
Got lemon juice up in your eye, eye
When you pissed all over my black kettle

You must have been high
You must have been high

Who are you to wave your finger?
So full of it
Eye balls deep in muddy waters
Fuckin' hypocrite

Liar, lawyer; mirror show me, what's the difference?
Kangaroo done hung the guilty with the innocent

Now you're weeping shades of cozened indigo
Got lemon juice up in your eye, eye
When you pissed all over my black kettle
You must've been...

So who are you to wave your finger?
Who are you to wave your fatty fingers at me?
You must have been out your mind

Weepin' shades of indigo
Trapped without a reason
Weepin' shades of indigo

Liar, lawyer; mirror, for you, what's the difference?
Kangaroo be stoned. He's guilty as the government

Now you're weeping shades of cozened indigo
Got lemon juice up in your eye, eye
Now when you pissed all over my black kettle

You must've been
High
High
High
High

Eyeballs deep in muddy waters
Your balls deep in muddy waters
Ganja Please
You must have been out your mind

"The Approaching Curve"
[Spoken:]
The music blared with a calming frequency.
The speakers gently seeped the sounds of ambient keyboards and light percussion,
creating a seductive soundtrack to our midnight drive through curtains of blackness.
The windows were cold to the touch, reflecting the icy conditions in our immediate extremity.
Salt stains and fingerprints littered the glass, and streets with melted snow cascaded down its length.
The music pulsed louder, yet gentle, like the far away squeal of a pot of boiling water.
The skyline was glowing faintly with vague hints of an impending dawn.
The car raced along a painfully straight stretch of road,
and she hadn’t so much as turned the steering wheel two degrees in the last twenty minutes,
nor had we spoken.

As we were, so perfect ,so happy.
They'll remember, only our smiles 'cause that’s all they’ve seen.
Long since dried, when we are found, are the tears in which we had drowned.
As we were, so perfect, so happy.

[Spoken:]
“Why are you doing this?” she spoke as if not expecting a response.
Her voice penetrated the still air of our speechless drive, so suddenly that my heart had jumped.
“I’m not doing anything,” I said, but I didn’t even believe that myself.
“This is what’s best, for me, for you, for us or maybe just for me,” I thought,
as a tear formed in the pit of her eye. The music poured through the speakers
and we were losing ourselves in the cadence. She looked down momentarily and closed her eyes
for a bit longer than a standard blink. Then she was crying. Then she was shouting.
Then I was shouting, now pouring confessions, having no answers, or solutions,
we barely even knew the questions.

As we were, so perfect ,so happy.
They’ll remember, only our smiles 'cause that’s all they’ve seen.
Long since dried, when we are found, are the tears in which we had drowned.
As we were, so perfect, so happy.

Don’t put me under ground, I was meant for a life somewhere else.
Please Love give me the wheel before both of our hearts you will steal tonight. (Will steal tonight.)

As we were, so perfect, so happy.
They'll remember, only your smiles 'cause that’s all they’ve seen.
Long since dried, when we are found, are the tears in which we had drowned.
As we were, so perfect, so happy.

[Spoken:]
Our cracking voices became part of the music.
The car pressed on faster through the night. As our voices lowered,
the cadence again overtook the air.
Up ahead there was a curve approaching.
She made no indications of slowing.

From my currently favorite song, Bullets, by Tunng:
These aren't the full lyrics, but my favorite ones in the song...
Bullets wrote:Green hills and enemies
These things they make us sentimental inside
Your words are gelignite
Or just another sentimental aside
...
Our blood and guts are out
We spread our bones across the table at night
We cut our fingers off
To give ourselves those little extra insights
...
We're catching bullets in our teeth
Its hard to do but they're so sweet
And if they take a couple out
We try to work things out
We're catching bullets with our
Heads and hearts and all the darkest parts of us
It's strange to find such light
In such endless night
We're catching bullets in our backs
We sent the undertaker back
Into the garden in the drought
To try to work things out
We're catching bullets with the best resources that we've got
We're happy then again we're not
We shout - through the endless doubt
Whether it was intended or not, to me this song is about human achievement (as my favorite songs are wont to be), particularly in the realm of scientific advancement, or more specifically the scientists themselves in a given generation. Scientific progress has been pretty crazily exponential over time; compared to a scientist in the first few millennia CE, or even in the 1700's or 1800's, an undergraduate student interested in science has so many more tools, tricks, and comprehensive knowledge, and our more prominent scientists so much more accomplished (not in the sense of producing groundbreaking discoveries, but producing more comprehensive information about topics more difficult to investigate, such as what we've learned about quantum mechanics), that to scientists of past generations it might very well seem that we're "catching bullets in our teeth" -- regularly performing tasks that are nigh impossible for them (and it's certainly "easy if you know how it's done").
But with some achievement comes lots of backlash. On the personal level, the stereotype of a gaunt nerd huddled over a keyboard comes to mind; devotion to science tends to draw people away from, well, interest in remaining healthy and fit, and hence "we cut our fingers off / to give ourselves those little extra insights." To some people, it's looks like a worthwhile tradeoff to sacrifice your health, lifespan, what have you, to devote a few extra hours in the day to this sort of work. And on a larger scale, when "[the 'bullets'] take a couple [of teeth] out" (our own efforts hurt us; e.g. CFC's and nuclear bombs), there are enough humans interested in keeping the damage minimal that continuing is still viable ("and when they take a couple out / we try to work things out").
I could keep rambling, but this is getting long enough that it's probably beyond boring by this point. There's other stuff I'd like to have mentioned such as increasing lifespans ("we sent the undertaker back") and carrying on in the face of ever-present doubt ("we shout through the endless doubt"), but the most important bit I still had left to mention is that we're happy doing this despite the backlash we take for it. Well, maybe not you hippies who want to live in the woods and frolic with the forest animals all day, but I don't understand you people anyway -- I'm talking about people like me who are interested more in science and progress. Of the last few lines, "we're catching bullets with the best resources that we've got / we're happy, then again we're not" makes me picture an older gentleman in a lab coat, with glasses repaired with masking tape, standing wearily, bleary-eyed, and exhausted, but with a gentle weak smile on his face. That look of tired satisfaction is the best sort of happiness that I personally could hope for.

...but that's just me. The song is probably actually about relationships or some shit.
"... and when i say 'scary as hell' i really mean 'tight pink shirt'." -kai
