I'm writing a report, and I need to write about the greatest Mathematician or Scientist, in my opinion. It can't be Newton or Einstein and I can only thing of Pasteur. Could someone list me some Mathematicians/Scientists and their achievements?

I'd go for Pascal or Turing imo.

Henri Poincaré is one of my favourites. René Descartes is cool, too.

Karl Friedrich Gauss deserves a mention, as does Schroedinger (who was responsible for more than cats).

I agree with Karl Friedrich Gauss - he was deemed the prince of mathematicians.scythe33 wrote:Karl Friedrich Gauss deserves a mention, as does Schroedinger (who was responsible for more than cats).

Darwin is the most influential scientist in history with the possible exxception of Newton, whom you can't write about. Also he led a fascinating life. Go with Darwin.
Actually, there is one argument against him; his theories were developed concurrently by another guy. (Wallace...?) Can't remember.
EDIT: Don't use Descartes. Please.

/me takes a step back from that sentence.flagmyidol wrote:Darwin is the most influential scientist in history with the possible exxception of Newton, whom you can't write about.
/me admires it from different angles.
Oh crap, did I just use angles? I guess I've got to thank Pythagoras and Euclid. But you're right, Darwin influenced more than they did. Natural history, now there's a science.

Tanner is using his chainsaw sharp wit to prove that actual science is more -real- than "Evolution".

Tesla is too cool for school. Otherwise I might recommend doing him. I certainly would love to have done him. I often lie in bed and dream about doing Nikola Tesla.
