The modern view of communism (China's version) is so distorted from Karl Marx's original intentions. It's two entirely different different things. And most people barely know about what Communism once was, and are arguing with little education about Communism's history.

I'm also Russian. I was born in the Soviet Union before its collapse and lived partially through the backlash.
And I gotta say, the thing I really have against communism is this quote right here:
I think equipping the US Air Force with magical flying powderpuff ponies that shit rainbows all over the enemy would be awesome, and it'd probably be pretty amazing if it actually worked, but it's still damned as a terrible fracking idea because there's no way it'll be possible.
And I gotta say, the thing I really have against communism is this quote right here:
If it's impossible to do, then what the heck makes it a great idea? Great ideas are functional ones. They're ideas that are actually realistic, ideas that would actually work if implemented. Because the requirement for a functional communism appears to be a perfectly moral society of humans, in which case you might as well make the world a bleedin' anarchy and you'd do just as well.Kablamo_Boom wrote:I reckon Communism is a great idea, but its just immpossible to do.

B&H has experience with communism. Bosnia&H was in the communistic federation of countries along with Slovenia, Croatia, Macedonia, Serbia and Montenegro. I don't know anyone who says it's better now than back then. On contrary, actually.
BTW
John Lennon liked it.
Imagine
Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us, only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today
Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion, too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace
You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
Nothing to kill or die for
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world
You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

No. Yoko Ono liked it. She heavily influenced the writing of that song. And, Imagine was just Lennon being Lennon, after all. Don't read too much into it.EdoI wrote: John Lennon liked it.

EDIT: Also, communism as an ideal is fine. But it's only that--a sort of Utopia of sharing. Nothing realistic.

It's certainly interesting to theorize why every communist culture went belly-up, and people seem to think the only common thread between all of the failed communist societies is human flaw. I subscribe to the theory that the only common denominator between them is Communism.
People can't stop complaining about the government getting involved in their business, and they romanticize communism somehow simultaneously, and I go, "wat".
I'm pro a much, much smaller government.
