The shadow + lighting makes it seem as though the car should be much further forward than it really is, or else the shadow should be moved back.

nah do this in the following order (each line means a layer over the previous one):

3 px black border
2 px border (of any bright color that appears in the sig)
1 px black border

This will show up on most any background. And it's one of my favourite border techniques. So now I have shared with you one of my secrets.
