The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens is part of our school's wellness class curriculum. Having been saturated in self-help feel-good messages for the past two months, I've found myself more and more repulsed by the book. And yet, I can't exactly pinpoint why I loathe this sort of thing so much. Is it because it provides an over-simplified and unrealistic viewpoint on life using stupid made up terms and classifications? What do you, reader, think of this man and his dreadful books?

The eighth habit of highly effective people: They don't read self-help books.

Self-help books do not make sense. I mean, they say they're self-help, but isn't the author helping you with their words? Otherwise, why buy the book? Clearly, this menace to clear thinking must be purged from our shelves.

I actually read that book a few years ago. I think he has the right motives, but he can't really help; I gathered from the book (at least, this was my perspective) that he was one of the popular dudes, so how does he know what kind of advice to give those that apparently need help?

It's mostly crap if you ask me.
