Welcome to Season 2. I have gotten explicit permission from Hendor to hold this contest, so let's have a blast!

When you look at a map, do you see places where a corner jump might save valuable seconds? Do you see enemies that you might just be able to squeeze past? Do you see doors that do not need to be opened? If you do, that's good. However, perhaps the best question is: Do you have the skills to play the way you see?

----------

I'll hold the dramatics here on in. As you may have guessed, this is a highscoring tournament. If you are interested, read on.

:: The teams
The first stage of this competition will be played in groups of 4; therefore, our total number of players must be a multiple of 4. Once we have enough people to play, I will put all the names into a hat and draw out the teams. Any players who get left out for one reason or another can be put onto a waiting list to jump in for someone if they have to drop out. I will not be playing.

:: The format
Competing within your randomly selected group, you will play three maps. Everyone in every group plays the same map at the same time. Each group does not have their own map. Based on your performance, you will be given points. The fastest player in each group will get most points, while the slowest person will get least. After playing through the three maps, the two players in each group with the most points will advance to the next stage. If two players are tied, each player's total time (in seconds) for all three maps is summed. The highest time wins the tiebreak. In addition to these 6 players advancing through the groups, 2 more people will advance via wild-cards. The remaining players who have the highest total time get these wild-cards. I'll get more into the format of the next stage when it gets closer to that time. For now, just know that submitting fast demos and getting lots of points is good.

:: The Scoring
1st in group - 4 points
2nd in group - 3 points
3rd in group - 2 points
4th in group - 1 point
To get points, you must submit a demo. If you do not submit a demo, you lose a point.

:: Bonus Points
Too boring so far? Yep, I thought so.

Making the Cut - Whenever I assign a map, I will also assign a certain time that I feel would be quite challenging for most players to reach. Every player who breaks this time gets +1 point.
The Golden Player - The single player who submits the fastest time out of everyone will get + 1 point. This player will likely accumulate 6 points on the round (4 + 1 + 1).
:: Rules
-You will always have a minimum of one week to complete your demo. This should be way more than enough.
-Complete your demo in Unreality's program, which you can find here. See below for instructions.
-The maps will be chosen from NUMA. Please do not post the demo you are submitting on the map's page before the contest is over.
-Do not PM me your demo.
-Discuss the map and your experiences here as much as you want. You may post your time (or a fake time) if you wish.

:: About NReality

I will resubmit all maps used in this competition to NUMA in order to enable a "protectedcontest" feature that lets only the everyone see the submitted demos score, but not the actual demo. So, you may submit as many demos as you want, whenever you want.

1 - Download the program using the above link and unzip the contents to a folder somewhere on your computer.
2 - Open the program from this folder. If you move the program out of the folder, you will lose some features.
3 - Click "userlevels" from the main menu.
4 - Enter the map number as given in the NUMA web address.
5 - Press "Load Map" and the program will automatically download the map from NUMA. Neat, eh.
6 - Click on the downloaded map just as in the old userlevels to play it.
7 - Any personal best will be recorded to the right of the map title.
8 - To submit your demo, ctrl-click it. (command-click it for Macs.)
9 - You will see everyone's score times, however you will not be able to view actual demos. You can still click their scores but their demo will appear as a 0 frame demo. You will be able to view your own demos however, even after submitting.

Round one began romaniac but it was short lived by the incoming of romaniac. Romaniac was the first competitior to break all the barriers in this round (except the "make the cut" barrier, which was broken by vankusss). He was the first above 140, 141, and the only to get above 142! He must have liked this map very much to improve him demo to the point of where even xaelar was nearly a full second under him. Innovation was key on this map. When I set the "make the cut" mark, I thought about 139.500 would be about the max score you could get! After seeing all the innovations possible, I was astounded! You all sure are smart <3. There was at least one big innovation on the way up to the trapdoor switch. You can see that in romaniac and vankusss' demos. Just when I thought you couldn't get over 140 without that innovation, xaelar gets over 141 without it! Crazy! Golfkid, Dan_K, Izzy and KinGAleX also made the cut, all by a good margin. I was dissapointed by TFK's participation this round, he is obviously good enough to make the cut, but missed it by about 3 frames. Where is that highscoring spirit? Haha. I was impressed by the outshowing of group 3! They all got scores above 136.750, which is quite a margin over all the other groups. Three people did not even bother to play the map :(. All three of those players have started off the competiton with negative points now. Thats a hole no one wants to climb in!

Round 2

Group Three:
FIRST - romaniac - 145.450 = 5 points = 16 points
SECOND - vankusss - 143.575 = 4 points = 12 points
THIRD - LittleViking - 0.00 = -1 points = 0 points
FOURTH - BNW - 0.00 = -1 point = -1 points
FI
Group Four:
FIRST - ToeFaceKiller - 148.550 = 5 points = 13 points

The top two finishers from each group advance to the next round, plus two wildcards (read first post):

You will all be competing on the same map, however there are no more points. Your only competitior now is the person you are versed against. If at the end of the round your demo is higher than theirs, you advance to the next round.

Okay, esay has reserved the last spot. And that makes 20 people, the largest multiple of four you can have with NReality. So let me state how this is going to work.
Competition Description

There will be 3 rounds, each a week long, with a map for all of you to demo. You cannot be eliminated in the first three rounds, so keep trying your hardest throughout all of this. The first three rounds serve as a chance to see who can get the most points, the top two in each group will move onto round four. From round four, we should have 10 people left in the competition. People will be ranked (by the highest to lowest number of cumulative points from round 1 - round 3)

Round four, the quarterfinals, signifies the start of the "Knockout Stage." People will be matched up, (lowest number vs. highest number, 2nd lowest vs. 2nd highest, etc.) Everybody will still all be playing the same map. At that point you will only be competing against your given competitor. The winner will be moving onto the next round.

Round five, the semi-finals, will have 5 people left in the competition. At this point, the competition gets a little different than the first season of BLUR. People will again be matched up same as the previous round, lowest vs. highest. The difference this round will be that since there are an odd number of people, one extra person will be eliminated from the competition at this point. This extra person will be the person with the one with the lowest demo who would otherwise not have been eliminated. This extra person will be crowned 3rd place in the competition.

Round six, the finals will have 2 people left in the competition. These two people will be the finals in the competition, which will have proven their prowess in highscoring over the other competitors, and obviously the competition will be insane! These two competitors will be competing for 1st and 2nd place in the competition. The winner will be crowned the victor.

Round five, the semi-finals, will have 6 people left in the competition. Same as before, with people being matched up.

Groups

Alright, I used a Random Number Generator to generate 20 numbers: 16 7 15 17 6 6 18 1 20 15 10 8 16 19 5 8 7 11 2 18 . The first number, 16, is assigned to the first player, golfkid. The second player, Alex777, is 7. I gave everyone a number like this and then organized them in ascending order. Players 1 - 4 are Group One, 5 - 8 are Group Two and 9 - 12 are Group Three. Players 13 - 16 are in Group Four and players 17 - 20 are in Group Five. So, without further ado, the teams:

Group One:
Izzy
Be_Inspired
Infernus
SlappyMcGee

Group Two:
esay
Kablamo_Boom
Alex777
xaelar

Group Three:
romaniac
LittleViking
BNW
vankusss

Group Four:
ToeFaceKiller
Avarin
Guiseppi
golfkid

Group Five:
UniverseZero
Riobe
KinGAleX
Leaff

LET ROUND ONE COMMENCE!

Map: Calm Down Dearest (by fingersonthefrets)
ID: 165501
Golden Player: Unknown
To make the cut: 138.650 (AGD, 1252 frames)

This round will be a little longer than normal to accommodate everyone's time zone, regardless of what it is.
This round will continue until:

Pacific Standard Time (GMT -8) : Sunday, May 10, 11:59PM
Grenich Mean Time (GMT +0) : Monday, May 11, 8:59PM
Brisbane Time (GMT +10) : Monday, May 11, 4:59PM

Any demos submitted after these times will earn the 0 points for the round, regardless of time.

~~Quotes~~
golfkid - "I beat kk on his map, and he got me within 6 seconds, then I did it again and he beat me in 12 seconds."

blue_tetris - "kkstrong was nothing, alot of people stood in his way, and he just fought against adversity, he learned he lived, and he was admin at nmaps.net for a while. He is a great mapper, and ya know, thats why he is on the short list for the mod pick."

Pheidi -" Despite a mapper's best efforts, highscorers will always find a way to defy his intentions."
