Since Evil_Bob seems to have left, what will happen to the thwump gym leader? It seems as if this contest is falling apart.

Evil_Bob's Gym has been established since the beginning of the contest. As unfortunate as his departure is, the show can go on.

Ah. I thought for some reason it was like a scrimmage for gym challenges or something. My bad.

Alright. I won't have time to send out the PMs tonight, but I will be including in this post who won and who lost this week. That way, everyone knows before Monday what Gym they'll be challenging this Week. I will be PM'ing the full challenge results and updating the blog tomorrow. Thanks for your patience, everyone. Let's have a good Week 6!
Also, a bit of a new scheme this week: Instead of spreading the maps amongst all the Judges who claim to be available, I will split them amongst the first three or four to reply. The rest will be on reserve so that if, by Saturday, I do not have all the results, I can call on them to finish up the results on time.
The Gym Challenge Results for Week 5:
-- Templex def. pete d, Kablamo_Boom.
-- astheoceansblue def. Daikenkai.
-- isaacx, oakstream, bufar def. astheoceansblue.
-- lord_day def. TribulatioN.
-- GTM, spudzalot, Hoohah2x2sday def. lord_day.
-- PALEMOON def. Destiny, Riobe.
-- BE_nSPIRED def. PALEMOON.
There. Full results tomorrow. Good luck in Week 6!

Right-click the image and click "Properties." Copy the URL where the image is located, and put that URL in your signature between [img ][ /img] tags.

Bumped because I have an idea.
So, anyone who's a member of Memoir of the Ancients will probably have taken a stroll around the site set up on therealn.com for compiling and judging all the maps. Despite the fact that I've been so busy that I haven't contributed squat to the project, I still am able to take a peek at the progress if I get an opportunity, and seeing the all but collapse of Neditor Nation has made me think.
What if we had a site for Neditor Nation similar to the Memoir site? For those who are unfamiliar, the site is like a mini-NUMA, where users submit maps they think are worthy for inclusion in the pack. The Judges on the site have the ability to give maps a Yes or No, and if a map garners enough support, it passes and becomes a part of the mappack. With some specializations added to this basic framework, we could have ourselves a handy engine for powering the Neditor Nation competition.
The specializations that I can think of would be these:
-- Specific map submission for a certain Gym Challenge/Special Event/what-have-you. This includes the ability to prohibit a user from submitting a map to a Gym he is not able to challenge yet for want of Badges.
-- A way to keep track of Badges earned by a user, much like ratings and other statistics are automatically compiled in any NUMA profile. This also includes other statistics, such as Scrimmage wins and losses and Player Score.
-- A way to handle scrimmages. This includes allowing ordinary users to vote on maps that have been designated for use in a scrimmage and figuring out how/when to determine a winner.
-- A way to implement Special Events and open and close them for submissions.
Some things that I can think of that would change about the way the contest is currently run:
-- Much less tedious legwork for those operating the contest. Ideally, the site would handle all of the compiling of entries and determination and notification of results that I normally spent a long time doing. With less tedious work to do, I could get more involved in other parts of the contest.
-- No more Weeks. The site would eliminate the need to break the contest down into weeks, which would allow users to determine their own pace in the contest.
-- No more bonuses on Demos. I don't see there being a way to automatically validate a demo, and with everything compiled and organized on a fancy new site, I don't know what I would do with demos. Manually validating demos and updating profiles seems a bit unnecessary when everything else is taken care of much more easily. Besides, it /is/ a mapping contest.
If you can think of anything that would need to be addressed, feel free to let me know I've missed something. And remember, none of this is happening as of now, although it may become a possibility in the future - provided that it is possible to code and there is enough support for the project. I just had the idea, so I thought I would share it with you all. Feedback from anyone who is involved in Memoir, especially ChaoStar, sidke, KlanKaos, and the other higher-ups who manage the site, would be very appreciated.
As for the actual contest, I can guarantee that nothing is happening until I finish my AP exams in mid-May. Sorry again to all of you for letting this get so ridiculously stagnant, but hopefully we can find a new, better way to go about this.

MID MAY?!?!?
Why don't you just hire another guy to help you judge and score the contest? I'd be happy to "wink wink" but i'd be more happy for anybody to, its been like a month now.

Hey, that's a good idea. I'm really too busy with MoA and things to keep doing this, but a moa-like site for Ned Nat would be really good.
I'm an admin and judge on the MoA site, and I support your idea.

I support your idea, Phiedi. Although it will be very hard to code and such, but if done this contest will surely get it's attention back. :)
I was also a former judge for moa.

I think that's a great idea. I bet you wouldn't have too much of a problem getting someone to take sidke's code and modify it for your needs, if he's willing to give it to you (which I'm sure he will). And it certainly would make things a lot easier.
From what I know of the technical workings of the site, most of your ideas wouldn't be too hard to sneak in there somewhere. So definitely go for it.
And you should totally make a map or two for MotA while you're at it ;) We could really use you.

We would have Judges on the site just like the Memoir site has Judges and the original contest has Judges. Also, I think we would be starting fresh on the new site. Consider this a "trial version" or something. We used it to work out the kinks in the contest, and besides, with the changes that might come with the new site, old and new results may not be compatible.BE_nSPIRED wrote:Well since the judges are posting, me too.
I think this could work but a problem with sniping could occur, unless you have difinite judges.
One question though, would progress continue from where it left off?
And KlanKaos, I was under the impression that submissions were closed. Hmm. Maybe I will make a map or two this weekend if the map-making portion of my brain will cooperate.
Thanks for the support, guys. Unfortunately, I can't code. Is there anyone you guys recommend for the job?

Nah, they were on hiatus for a while, to let the judges catch up. We're going again.

Unfortunately, yes. That's the only way I see it happening. :(Erik-Player wrote:So you're saying if you have badges, you will have to start over?

I don't see a problem in taking time to mention the original contest and standings if this idea ever becomes reality. Even if it doesn't, I'll try to get things together and put out some kind of results.BE_nSPIRED wrote:=[ I was doing quite well too.
Can you at least give acknowledgement to the top authors. After tallying the last of the scores.
I think completing this competition even if not in it's Interiority would be a good thing.

I don't see a problem with that, if it could be worked in somehow. If, with the changes to the system, it were still possible, then I don't see why not.yappydog wrote:What about a small points boost in NedNat2, proportional to the badges you picked up in NedNat1? Nothing game-shattering, but maybe 2-3 points per badge?
Also, how much support do you think I need for this idea before I seek the attention of one of TheRealN's higher-ups?

I don't think it'd be that big of a deal, tbh. We didn't have much of a problem getting MotA on therealn. You should talk to them now and feel it out before you ask anyone about coding the site.

And if asking anyone about therealn, ask LV.
