What do you go to concerts for?

I was thinking this over today. The school I'm at's holding this concert with local bands for some charity do, and i was in a quandary over whether to go or not. The music's not bad, so I thought why not. I was planning on going with some friends, but most of them bailed at the last minute. So I decided not to go; I just didn't think it'd be that fun being with people who I either don't know or mildly piss me off.
Therefore, I'd go to a concert to have a good time with friends. What do you guys go to a gig for?

Uhh, Jesus. I guess this comes down to priorities more than anything. Considering a couple of us down here passed on seeing Opeth because no one else was bothered to go, I'd have to say numero two would be the main thing. That'd be very closely followed by option one, although the two kinda go hand in hand. Three and four could pass as the same thing and would be next on the list of reasons, while number five just acts as a bonus.

To say a real answer, I love going with my friends. I'm into contemporary and metal christian, so there is a lot of head banging and quiet moments! I love playing in a concert as well. It's fun.

If the music is good, it would be appreciating good music. If the music is not that well but my friends are going, it's having a good time with my friends. If the music is good but none of my friends are going, it's appreciating good music and socialising with strangers in the same time. So... I didn't vote.

I wouldn't go to concerts if they had only one of the factors listed. It's the whole experience that makes it worthwhile.

The main one for me is good music, but I wouldn't do it without friends.
So I suppose those two are both necessities. However, I'll choose #1 because I would consider going to a concert alone if it was, like, Rush or something, but I'd never go to a bad concert just to hang out.

All except the last two...
I also dig flirting with the scene girls that show up to heavy metal gigs.

I definitely go to gigs to appreciate the music, but other things are important as well. Why I first moved to Los Angeles I went to alot of gig on my own to socialise and get to meet people. If it's that kind of concert, I'll definitely mosh, I'm not old enough yet to be one of those guys who stands in the corner sheepishly headbanging.
It's funny you mentioned weed, actually. In the old incarnation of the the band we always used to get completely stoned before gigs. We don't really know if it enhanced our playing, but we did it because we were extremely nervous.

Depends on the gig, but I usually go to appreciate the good music.
