The ultimate question has at last been brought to Metanet! Do you correctly say scone, or do you instead go for the clearly wrong scone? Or are you just an oddball who pronounces it scone, or a nutter who claims that, despite all the evidence, it's actually scone?! You choose.

Rhymes with 'gone' unless I'm being ironic in which case it rhymes with 'bone'.

The *fuck*?

I could've sworn the global pronunciation came from the British (bone).

I don't know why I put in the last two options, maybe I thought that every possible pronunciation should be included? Even though I've only ever seen one of those two used, and that was by some random oddball on another forum somewhere.

EDIT: Sc(b)one isn't really "British". In Scotland, where the word originates, it's generally pronounced sc(g)one, even though the place the food is named after is pronounced scone (rhymes with "boon"), another reason I included that option. Since my mother is Scottish, I've grown up being told that sc(g)one is right and that sc(b)one is heretical.

Try explaining this then.
Wiki wrote:The pronunciation of the word across the United Kingdom varies. According to one academic study, nearly two thirds of the British population and 99% of the Scottish population pronounce it as /skɒn/, to rhyme with "con" and "John." The rest pronounce it /skəʊn/, to rhyme with "cone" and "Joan." British dictionaries usually show the "con" form as the preferred pronunciation, while recognizing that the "cone" form also exists.[1]
