This is by far the most intelligent thing I have ever heard you say. Bravo.the_happy_taco wrote:Agreed, people are screaming at a brick wall, not much else they can do.
As for these maps, it's simply a matter of simplicity. Action maps are simple to make and provide much difficulty as a result. Other map types are difficult to make and can sometimes provide simple gameplay. This results in people not wanting to spend their time making these types of maps because they don't get recognition from it.
As a result, any race map, DDA, or N-art (or otherwise) presented to a newer member who has not had the exposure to many other better or similar maps will rate it better because for them it is a "new" concept, even if it has been done 120,000 times before.
Notice that although races, n-arts and DDA's take up much of the spotlight, people are also more critical of action maps. Until there comes a point where the majority of the community has been exposed to these types of maps and can determine what makes one better than another, I have to agree with the_happy_taco: we're screaming at a brick wall.

I agree with you, and before I rated way too easy, mostly because there are so many noobs who don't know what a race are. Now I will rate much more strict. Thanks for taking me back to those maps.

That's mostly why I'm directed towards race maps, but also because of their speed.Destiny wrote:It's all about supply and demand. There are more action maps than anything else, and so the rates (though greater in number) are spread over many more maps, while races get more rates due to their frequency. As for what they are rated, who really cares?

i think not enough people play wulfgang's races, which really are original and are now blurring the line between races and action maps, so that explains why no noobs play them.
a race guide would be a good idea, like atob's guide submitted as a map, then it would be easy to direct noobs to proper advice. when i started, i looked for info about how to make races, but there wasn't anything so i spent ages trying to figure it out for myself, each map took hours to make.
there will always be people who love generic and very boring races. we just need to make sure we get though to the people who really want to make high-quality and interesting races, and help them, because i would love the hot races page to be full of variety and not just dominated by a handful of good racemakers.
