Slappy: Here's what's wrong with your response:

-Pitchfork is a collective of dick.
-Vampire Weekend wasn't even so last year. Which is to say, it always sucked.
-No Age is the audio equivalent of scratching nits.

Right now I'm trying to listen to Conor Oberst & The Mystic Vally Band, but he seems to have been listening too much to the 'he's the new age Bob Dylan' reviews, or something. I can't put my finger on it, but it seems off slightly.

Plans by Death Cab For Cutie is one of the greatest pop/whatever records I've heard in a long while. Their definitive, I'd say.

-

Oh, slappy, gentle ribbing aside: You like No Age, do you know Wormhole?

That song was fantastic.

Also, Plans is fantastic pop record. Probably the best of the decade. which is weird, becuase it occurs to me now, we're going to have "Best of the Decade" lists soon, and I'm still experiencing music from 2001 that sounds as fresh as the stuff today. I think what happened in the 2000's. We have few people trying to move a sound forward, but instead a bunch of innovators inventing new sounds, and spreading outward. Indie rock has become such an ambiguous term, and it has to be, because the if we gave every variety of music a genre these days, it would be ludicrous. But yeah, quiet reflection on why the 2000's were sweet.

And as far as Conor Oberst being modern Bob Dylan, Will.i.Am.

Dessa - False Hopes EP

I want this girl to put out a long player so badly, this is the best hip hop I've stumbled accross since the beginning of last year. She absolutely kills it, lyrically deft and with a super nimble delivery. Topically, she could stand to inject more than the relationship struggles and angst, but a great sense of black humour underpins the whole thing.

I'm also loving Remain in Light by Talking Heads.

I don't listen to all that much Pop, but if I was going to nominate an album of the decade it'd be Alopecia by Why? A lovely blend of hip hop and folk rock. One of my favourite lyricists.

artist- Talk Talk
album- Spirit of eden

This album is just mesmorising, with a mix of ambient, jazz and classical, as well as some really unique sounds, which are hard to box into a style. You may know Talk Talk as a wanabee DuranDuran, but that was when they were on EMI, who wanted to make Talk Talk a commercial sucsess. Then they released this album, which was so experimental, that EMI sued Talk Talk because the album was not "commercially viable".

Anyway, heres the tracks:
1- rainbow
2- eden
3- Desire
4- Inheritance
5- I believe in you
6- Wealth

the second track is desire, the third is eden. I've forgotten what the rest of the tracks names are, but im sure wiki can help you out :)

Warped Tour'd yesterday, let me give you a low-down of the best bands I saw:

-Chiodos: Post-Hardcore outfit, played at eleven in the morning, and got the day going. Like a tight but lesser alexisonfire.
-Stayle Fish: This is really cool. They have punk rock guitar, but their "chorus" vocalist sings really melodically, almost to the point of one of the pop-punk or My Chem bands. Where the band shines is it's verses, though, as an awesome rasta dude rhymes over the verses, and there's this really smooth transition of the melodic to the hip hop. They also claimed there was some ska in there, but I didn't hear it.
-Creepshow: Awesome horrorpunk band, and one of the best mosh pits I've ever been in. Got completely bruised. Just a little bit louder and more intense version of the Misfits, I think.
-Flogging Molly: Don't need to clarify this one. Irish punk, amazing live, a staple to the community.
-Alexisonfire! I love me my post-hardcore Alexis, and the show was friggin' amazing. I was standing off to the side with one of my friends, when I see another one of my friends whom I hadn't known was there crowd surf to the front. So, obviously I had to jump in the fray. Amazing showmanship from the band, and a really awesome energy.
