I am a junior in college and soon will be almost completing about 3/4 of my major requirements to graduate. but at the present time i am in fear of the next semester, because of a professor that has been reputed to being a "bitch" and students would rather go in front of a firing squad then have her as a professor, however you know you have those students that kiss butt alot that looooovvvveeee her as well but many of the reviews she has recieved have been pretty bad.... not only does she get really bad reviews. for those that should get an A, she comes in the first day of class and states plainly and clearly "no one in this class will ever *ever* get an A (90%-100%) in this class. so dont count on getting one"
i just wonder has any one ever had this type of thing to look forward to, or situation like this that has occurred? and how did you cope with it?

My immediate reaction is, "No, you will do your job as you're fucking paid to do it, you sadistic bitch. If I wanted to use your ridiculous grading scale instead of the one officially mandated by the school, I'd come to you individually instead of paying out the ass for tuition."
Find out if she's tenured. If she isn't, complain to the academic dean. If she is, ask instead how the hell she became tenured despite openly being a sadist.

I say make something bad to her, but don't get caught.
I'm pretty experienced with that.

I understand what you're on about; I've got the chance of that happening as well. I've had an incredibly bad teacher for Physics for the past two years (nothing but constant powerpoint presentations, which does bugger all when you're trying to learn something), and now I've got a 1 in 4 chance of getting her again for A Level.
I think the students that "love" her are probably only trying to influence their grades. If that's possible.
Luckily, it's not definate, but you still can't rule out the chance. And the next two years are going to be hell anyway; I don't needed added stress on top.
I know you've said that this teacher states that no one will get an A, but do you know of anyone that has? It could be an approach to getting students to work harder.

I wouldn't try something like that, in case you do get caught. Just having her as a professor/teacher will probably be bad enough from the sound of things, let alone having her constantly breathe down your back making sure you don't annoy you again, or target any frustration at you.Tunco123 wrote:I say make something bad to her, but don't get caught.

I had a professor in college who attached drop slips to his first test. He said "If you get lower than a B on this test, you will fail the course."

Does your college not grade on a curve? Furthermore, what is the subject? If it's anything that isn't extremely liberal, then you can get an A by not getting any questions wrong. On the other hand, it could be English, or History, or Vision of Art, or something else totally nonhetero, in which case, back to the curve question. :/

however it did make me smile, thank you for that. :)
~the school has a set grade scale and the teachers decide if they want to curve or not. this professor is reputed to be crazy and probably would not. i am however being told that if i go in and talk to her and tell her that i have a slight learning disablility (which i do) that she may take pity on my poor soul and give me benefit of doubt. so im hopeing that will help.SlappyMcGee wrote:Does your college not grade on a curve? she used to give A's but for some reason she stopped doing it and turned really cold and malevolent to all of her students. and i doubt it would be an approach to getting students to work harder because im not kidding when i say NO one has recieved an A in her class for a good 5-6 years.Drathmoore wrote:

and yes she is tenured sadly....
that and shes second in command of the department. the class is Marketing Management in the management department at a Liberal Arts college

Do you plan to be "homeschooled" for your college education?UnknownKirbyMan wrote:I'm home-schooled so I do not have any problems like that.
Good luck getting a job. The Bachelor's Degree is the new High School Diploma.
