I like maps that resemble mine. I like people that dedicate their maps to me. I often play maps that feel like it's been influenced by my maps. You know, because my maps are like, totally superior. So the closer your map is to my signature style, the higher I rate it. This is why Skyline always gets 0's or 1's from me.

This is why I haven't submitted a map in over a month ;-;
You didn't even deem mine worthy enough to play.

I don't think I can even comprehend the idea of "Rating" a map anymore. I'm so used to map-packs and pack creation, that I don't think I'm anywhere near a good judge of NUMA maps anymore.

I rate maps based on three criterion:

1) Do I enjoy watching my replay after I've finished playing the map?
2) Is every item properly balanced? Too much Gold, too many mines, use of thwumps at all...
3) Does it have a bitching pun in its name?

Whenever I post a map, I look at two others and rate them accordingly. If there is one of my favorite authors I rate their map but usually Iook at an inexperienced mapmakers map.
30% looks
30% game play
30% object placement
10% feel
Here's a question; What would you rate this map?

I rate levels on the fun factor, mostly. I also rate levels on how difficult it is, and it's uniqueness. Minor criticism goes to looks.

(re-)playability, challenge and other gameplay probably takes up 40%, Aesthetics another 40% and the last 20% (from 4 to 5) for that special something (the title, the superb droid paths, or a really cool "concept").

That is, once I feel I'm skillful enough to actually rate others' works. For now I'll focus on getting better, both at the game and at creating maps.

This is my first post on the forums by the way.

i rate based on several things

-is the map overall an enjoyable playthrough? If i die once, do i want to continue playing it?
-does the map look pleasing? can i examine the tileshapes and objects and not get bored?
-is it getting a lot of attention? since high rates make a map stick to the hot maps page longer i tend to rate maps that are fairly ignored higher so more people can look at it. That's just how it works.

Seems some people don't understand the concept of a "0-0"
As you so frequently claim, ratings and opinions are subjective, but suddenly when someone calls your own map generic you start complaining?
In my defense on the first one, I suppose saying that they're ugly is your opinion (beauty is in the eye of the beholder after all).
Generic, however, is not an opinion, it's a statement of fact, and the simple fact is that that map wasn't generic.
MickyTP wrote:Take Riobe, they're all good. They're all (relatively) fun. But generic. They look and play pretty much the same, yet most are rated 4 and 5. I rated the last ones 2
So despite them being both good and fun, you rate it a 2 because it's generic? This is rating abuse in my eyes.

These are the reasons why I stopped rating maps. All of the reasons for and against rating maps, all of the reasons why we should change the ratings system, all of the people who consider the ratings system to be flawed or okay or fine as it is, for the feeling of having your first rated map after many tries, for the snipers, for the anti-snipers, for the complaints and the users who base their status on NUMA by how many rates, how highly rated and how many rated maps they have...

There is a reason why we have the "Disable Ratings" checkbox and the ability to favourite maps, and there are reasons why I use both of these instead of allowing my maps to be rated or rating another person's map.
