N+ XBL - Achievement Glitch?

Okay, so before i start on my first post ;)
I must firstly say!

Okay, well. The Secret Achievement. I decided to look online to see what it was - die 1000 times. So i went on, pressed X, double tap A, repeat. But its been nearly 2 hours now, i would of thought id have it now? I know its sorta cheating, but i really wanted the achievement.. So anyway, i thought 'Perhaps you have to genuinely die, not blow yourself up'. I go on a level where you drop down and a blue laser thingy hits me, yet STILL no achievement! Help?

Pretty sure you have to die normally, because that would otherwise be cheating. Good luck playing the actual game.
