Man I'm really sorry I won't have time for this. I hope this contest works out well.
Edit: Is there a reason you're still going to allow people to see others scores as opposed to the completely blind method used in the first BLUR (not a commentary on one being better than the other just a question)?

Numerous ex-0ths (xaaaaeeeelaaaar!), over 300 top-20s and a 19+ hour total score.

Hey I don't play anymore, so count me out. I'd probably give it a shot if I was still at home but I have no N at Uni and travelling home to play N would be kinda sad :P
Good luck on running it though! I'll edit my sig...

Heh, the truth is that kk told me that people preferred being able to see the scores rather than being left completely in the dark, so I was taking his advice <3darkshadow wrote:Man I'm really sorry I won't have time for this. I hope this contest works out well.

I was thinking of submitting a practice map, just so that people can see what they're up against, but after reading your post it occurred to me that I could submit two so that I could test both methods and see which people prefer.

The difference probably wont be favorable in a test map because the way in which it worked well was by people not knowing whether or not someone was bluffing about their score or a trick they'd found on the map which only really comes up when people care about the results. Thus that back and forth would probably be absent in a practice map. What would make more sense to me is too have two versions of the map with the pros being completely blind and the amateurs being able to see scores. However, since I don't have a stake in this these are just suggestions from the outside looking in.Seneschal wrote:Heh, the truth is that kk told me that people preferred being able to see the scores rather than being left completely in the dark, so I was taking his advice <3darkshadow wrote:Man I'm really sorry I won't have time for this. Personally as one of the ones in the "pro" category I really like seeing other peoples scores, and not their runs. But I am far from the majority so you'd have to ask others before you decide.darkshadow wrote:What would make more sense to me is too have two versions of the map with the pros being completely blind and the amateurs being able to see scores. It's a nice idea, but it would mean that I'd have to submit the same map twice for every round, and I think that many of the participants (well, the ones I've talked to on irc and the ones who have posted in this thread) wouldn't be too keen on not being able to see each other's scores.darkshadow wrote:The difference probably wont be favorable in a test map because the way in which it worked well was by people not knowing whether or not someone was bluffing about their score or a trick they'd found on the map which only really comes up when people care about the results. Seeing as this is a protected contest, I am assuming that we are not allowed to share demos? or are we on a voluntary basis?

It would be preferable if you did not share demos. Telling someone else an innovation they're missing not only compromises your own chances but that of other people's who haven't seen/noticed that particular innovation.TheRealOne wrote:Seeing as this is a protected contest, I am assuming that we are not allowed to share demos? or are we on a voluntary basis?
So, to repeat, you are not allowed to show other people your demos.

No, you use nreality. As I explained in the first post, by adding |||protectedcontest to the map data, you can see other people's scores but not their demos; only I, as submitter of the maps, will be able to see the demos. Thus, you can see where you stand, but you can't steal other people's innovations.karmap0lice wrote:so no nreality submitted demos? How do we give you the demos, pm you?
Oh, and before somebody else asks me, the competition should start on Saturday or Sunday.

One thing that I ask is (and you may already plan on doing this), but please put the current map of the contest in this topics title. That way it is really easy to find. Some contest hosts don't do this and it is very aggravating to go and find the map.
Thank you,

there is a "good" hard and a "bad" hard. i'd classify this as the latterTunco123 wrote:It's supposed to be hard, duh. And it is, so you don't have the right to hate it.Radium wrote:round 1 has been discouraging for me. i thought the map was fucking aweful. awkward slopes and mines and rockets. ugh.
