B&T and why it's not here.

B&T really had no function on the previous forums. We were to be lenient about a moderate amount of swearing, no matter where it occured. Additionally, certain subject matter could not be discussed anywhere--even in B&T. Essentially, the original purpose of B&T (to house all profanity and allow nasty topics) went by the wayside. We found that a little profanity elsewhere was okay, as long as it wasn't egregious, and we found that certain offensive, sexual, or othersuch topics were not welcome on the forums at all.

B&T won't be coming back. We'll be a little more lenient if you're posting profanity here and there, but in certain forums it'll seem a bit unwelcome. Say, on the N- or N+-related forums, such profanity would be swept away and, if it keeps up, will result in a warning.

Community Discussion (this forum) will allow the occasional "blue" topic, if you're familiar with retro comic terminology. And if you're not familiar with retro comic terminology, you're too young to make those topics.

On the other hand, certain rules enforced at the Metanet forums were only through obligation because forumer.com was hosting us. One such rule in particular has been finally overthrown, and I've been given the honor of overseeing the change.

If you browse the 'net and get offended by a bit of foul language then you need to stop being so naive. What else is there to expect from a place where anyone can say anything they like? Things are moderated to some extent to keep everyone from seeing the real truth, but it's nothing more than you would hear anywhere else. :/

^ No! That would just be avoiding the problem, which is people who post vulgarly or with extremist perspectives on issues, when most of the time they're unnecessary (I guess exceptions would be when someone really deserves a verbal beating or is ridiculously thick, or a political issue... but that's not often). That's what the Soldat forums have (a word filter—mandatory, not optional like here—which we don't even know how to work in the first place :P), and the board's rampant with morons changing one letter to bypass it, and even the staff itself swearing left & right at pesky matters.

I would normally be fine with that, but unfortunately (at least here), it's not "a bit." Perhaps some are less sensitive, but I have seen crap in practically every thread here already. I noticed this degeneration beginning earlier than spring of this year on the old forum; I quietly edited numerous, numerous posts there, but I suppose it was just too weak, even when leaving edited-by lines. Junk every 20 posts or so is fine, but that's also every 3-5 threads, not every single thread. If it keeps up I will begin to warn sporadically; the negative influence of the B&T spilling into the rest of the board will end here with its death.

I think the real problem is the excessive and/or unnecessary profanity, not so much the occasional ass or damn here and there. I agree, Keron, that people who need to swear might want to take control of their actions, but sometimes a point needs to be made with some "flavor", so to speak. We can always begin to verbally (er... textily?) reprimand repeat offenders and warn them if need be.

Community > Discussion, if you've really got to talk about them at all. Topics about ballsacks and what your favorite thing to do with with a vagina that doesn't involve your wang will simply not be tolerated at all on the new forums. There's no place for them, because where they showed up on B&T, mods put a stop to them.

The aggresive sexual conotations of most swear words causes a certain distress to some people, and certainly aren't appropriate for younger children.

The lazy nature offends some egos.

It's fun to swear sometimes to add a little ironic colour, and the cathartic aspect can be a value, but the I wouldn't view their usage as a real freedom. They're much more of a detriment to intellectual growth if allowed to replace proper thinking too often.
