If in the past 10 minutes you have commented and rated a different map, you will be allowed to post a map. If you havnt then you cant post your map. I understand assholes could rate and comment a map without playing it, but we are not all assholes. If someone has to comment and rate a map before posting one of theirs, people would usually play the map they commented/rated on.

Maybe you have to post a demo. If you went so far as loading the map, you might as well play it.

Then you could post something like

It's been thought of before. I doubt we'll find a solution. :/

Hey, what if we made you post a comment before you had to rate a map too! Then you would, like, have to, like, y'know, give feedback and stuff. Which means that you obviously played the map before you rated it and then we can track who rated when and then we can like bam all teh spammrs and kick them out of the club of awesome people.

Anything that requires a user on NUMA to do something in order to rate or submit a map or whatever is a bad idea.

Nah mate, that's the wrong way around. :P
If you want to submit a comment, you should have to submit a map too!
Or ten.

Clever idea, but number of maps would increase more and more and /spam/ if that becomes implemented.

Hah! I'd rather have the comments increase tenfold before having the number of maps increase tenfold.

How about this idea;
5 comments and rates = You can post one map.

With that idea, every new map submitted on Numa would get at least one rating and comment. Logicly.
I love this idea.

Since you ignored southpaw's last point, I might as well restate it: the general consensus is that if you're forcing a user to rate or comment a map in some way, it's not a good idea. Not just because the user should have that freedom, but because it will inevitably lead to people posting "." on maps so that they fulfill that requirement. And before you suggest a character limit, that would just result in longer spam.

I see how some people might spam, but i really think this community is better than that. You cant just say everyone will spam.

Fine. It would lead to a lot of spam. Fair?

In any case, what does this suggestion really boil down to? It's probably either that you're aiming to reduce map spamming or generate more user interaction. The former can be slowed down with a map submission cap (link), and the latter is just an unfortunate truth for pretty much everyone. You can get more rates/comments through the Map-Rating and Map-Commenting threads, and you can always just PM people asking if they'd like to do rate exchanges (some people are perfectly willing to a handful or more).

This idea has been presented often times before. Here's the reason it's been shot down an equally amount of times:

If you're forced to comment/rate/etc. (or anything for that matter), it will eventually turn into an extraneous exercise. After being forced to do this enough times you'll arrive at the mentality that doing this is annoying when all you want to do is submit your map. This mindset yields nothing but mindless comments and rates, which is the opposite of what you were trying to 'encourage' in the first place.

It's a good idea in theory, but it will turn for the worst fairly quickly.

Man, if it /did/ become a site social enough to be called the N User Comment Archive, I think we could just shorten that to N With Attitude.

We should find a way to change the name to NUKE. Like... Nexx's Ulitmate Kite Emporium.
