round one is over, and 8 people submitted maps. this leads to the following:

1. this contest will have 4 rounds.
2. the eliminations will be: 1-2-2-2. this means three players will battle it out in the final round.

i will do my part of the judging tomorrow, and i will tell seneschal to do his as fast as possible. the moment i receive his numbers, i will post the results and we will see who will be the first one to go. good luck everybody!

dont worry about it, i already counted your maps. i check the forum and nmaps.net regularly. by the way, it seems like scrivener/script is coming in as well, so we will have 9 players, which means we will have 2 eliminations in round one.

round one

my judging (in spoilers):
brainwasher

brainwasher1
A 6/25
the tiles really don't look like much. also, they reminisce the original map, which is always a bad thing.
G 8/15
the snipers worked well, the drones were for the most part useless. the mines were a nice touch.
O 2/10
it really lacked originality. the map just felt like you didn't put too much effort in it.

brainwasher2
G 15/25
a little hit-and-miss. the lasers were cool, the thwumps weren't. the drones and the sniper worked well, the upper floorguard was just annoying. it did play well for the most part though, and the gold was fun.
A 10/15
it looks clean and nice, except for the bottom part which is just messy.
O 4/10
not very original, but at least interesting.

total 45/100

bufar

lie in art zounds
A 8/25
the tiles were pretty boring, as were the mines.
G 7/15
EXTREMELY hard. there's almost no coverage, it's just one big space with all the enemies pounding you down at the same time. some of the jumps were super fun though, and the bounceblocks worked well (i still haven't been able to AGD it yet).
O 2/10
not really original.

zanier loud tins
G 14/25
had a "simple challenge" feel to it. once again, really hard. dodging the rockets was a lot of fun, but i do believe it would have worked better without the drones.
A 5/15
i really wasn't a fan of the floorguard-door-combo. the rest of the objects also didn't add much aesthetic appeal.
O 5/10
this is quite original.

total 41/100

crescor

issues
A 15/25
stylish but uneven.
G 13/15
almost every object you were given was used to full effect. the difficulty was just right. very nice.
O 9/10
very original in its use of objects

-
G 23/25
the chaingun outside and the rocket inside were both the perfect enemy choice. the map also had a really enjoyable flow.
A 12/15
very clean, not a single superfluous or annoying object. this map could've been part of the original n-game.
O 4/10
hardly "original", still the map was executed very well.

total 76/100

da_guru

port de sur
A 17/25
tiles were a little messy but consistent in style. the mines added a nice feel to the map.
G 11/15
the beginning and end were awesome, but in between it had its share of clumsy and awkward moments.
O 7/10
tiles were to some extent original, but what was really interesting was your segmentation and use of space.

district 08151a
G 15/25
busy, but never tedious. repetitive.
A 8/15
bland, but not ugly. boring but functional gold pattern. a few red dots might have improved the look of this map.
O 3/10
the whole drone-thing is not very original (underlined by the fact that another contestant had the exact same idea).

total 61/100

DDRave

glomp
A 22/25
fantastic retile, strong coherence of tiles and objects.
G 8/15
the drones and snipers were amazing. the mines on the other hand really, REALLY threw me off. maybe provide a demo next time?
O 7/10
i loved the optional gold chamber, very original way to integrate the locked doors.

pmolg
G 13/25
repetitive, not really challenging. the jump pads seemed out of place. the mines were okay.
A 9/15
it looked good, nothing special about it though
O 3/10
see above.

total 62/100

ENT474

a giant ant.
A 12/25
it's hard to create a good-looking puzzle-retile map. considering that, you did a good job.
G 6/15
so it's a puzzle, okay. some of the elements worked quite well, like the first drone, but others were just annoyingly hard. once again, a demo would've helped.
O 7/10
you can't deny its originality.

frcause.
G 9/25
too many gimmicks, not enough substance. most parts of this map didn't work for me at all, like the thwumps or the floorguards. the laser was a good choice.
A 8/15
nothing special to say about the looks of this map. the gold pattern is somewhat bland.
O 5/10
it's original, but the originality didn't do the map much good.

total 47/100

lj11

mull fonty
A 21/25
the tile pattern was really nice and fit the objects well.
G 11/15
nice balance of difficulty. the laser worked really well. you only incorporated one bounceblock into the map, though.
O 6/10
refreshingly original.

full monty
G 14/25
good thing you posted a demo, because it was REALLY confusing. judging by the demo though, a lot of thought went into this map, and the thwumps were used very well.
A 6/15
i get that this is a race, still it looked really messy, and the gold is pretty ugly.
O 10/10
how do you look at this tileset and think "okay, i'll make a race!"? lol. full points for originality.

wumbla1
A 22/25
the combo of futuristic-looking tiles and the rough bottom looks really nice.
G 11/15
this played really well. the chaingun was the perfect enemy choice.
O 4/10
has more of a "standard" action map-feel. the tiles are quite original though.

wumbla2
G 20/25
some would say the 2 chainguns are overkill. i don't. the bounceblocks were so much fun to jump around on.
A 9/15
it looked fine, a few less mines would've been better in my opinion.
O 6/10
the use of rockets was pretty original.

First of al: yay

Second: The third round is the last round, right? I'm gone from the 10th of july, so I might have a problem in subbing maps for that round. Is there any way I can (for example) get the map I'm supposed to change a day ahead or something? So that I can post my map right before I leave.

If not, I completely understand.

i'm sure we can work something out. as a matter of fact, i will send you the map data of round 3 tomorrow, which will give you exactly one week to make the maps. you can then PM me your maps back and in case you don't get eliminated in round 2 i can post them for you once round 3 officially begins.

I'll try to get as much judging done as possible for round 2 but depending on the deadline for round 3 I will not be able to judge round 3. You can search for a replacement for round 3.
