Anyways, I was never really a runner, so I could only gauge relative speeds and such during the fitness tests we had at school. I could run the 100m in about 12 or 13 seconds, and my best shuttle run (beep test) score was 11.4.

Orange- N cannot be spoken, or even thought about in my household. If my parents ever found out that I have played N since the cleansing, my life would be ruined. I keep the game in a multi-passworded .rar on a USB flash drive inside a locked boron alloy container that requires two keys to open (I keep one under the 64th hammer in my piano, and the other one in a small section of removable ceiling in the corner of the attic) hidden in a wall compartment lined with aluminium foil to prevent sonar detection behind my 375 kg cupboard, which is bolted to the floor - the only way to reach it is to abseil outside the fourth floor window and use a screwdriver to unfasten the screws holding the secret brick in place on the opposite side of the wall, but the screwdriver must be a specific type like the one I own, since if any other screwdriver comes into contact with the screws, the entire building will explode, as will a seperate charge placed inside the boron alloy container, rendering the USB useless. Even once the container is retrieved, attemping to open it without the arming pin in place (which is kept inside the battery compartment of my Maglite) will cause the water reservoirs lining the container to burst and react with the caesium lining, causing the container to burst into flames - the only way to prevent this is to use the arming pins to shut off the reservoirs with a sliding steel door. The USB itself contains an accelerometer linked to an explosive charge, meaning that if the USB detects its own movement speed as being greater than 5 cm/s, it will explode - any person attempting to steal it would have to move at a uselessly slow speed. Once plugged into a computer, the USB will upload a ghost virus onto it, leaving no traces. Only the right password can deactivate this virus, and if it is left on the computer for more than six hours, it will format all drives.

As you can see, I take my N playing very seriously.

Guiseppi- I'd much rather watch animals get boned in the ass.

Yanni- If it's glad, it's not rape.

Tsukatu- I refuse to use throw-away bags for such a frequent purpose as buying groceries. Instead, I've collected the hair of my two pet dogs and have woven them together into an all-natural, 100% environmentally friendly bag that I bring with me everywhere. And when I buy products that come in glass and plastic containers, I track down the company that packages them and ship back their containers so that they don't take up space in landfills.

Yeah, I use plastic.

Tsukatu- I hear Ebony Online is great, too. Cum save your princess, my lord!

Ska- UR MUM LIKE IS SPICY

Ska- why d i get the feeling what i typed will end up in the quote depository; or worse: someone's sig.

KinGAleX- I did it on the couch a little while ago.

Zeph- I got too pissed at the knife in the end so I just broke the wood on my knee

i remember the beep test being where you had to run across the gym before it beeped, and do it for so many times, faster each one.
my beep test in 3rd grade (my most recent one 4 years ago): 114
my shuttle run last year: 9.6

Glad to see this thread is up again. I happen to love running and run Cross Country as well as Track for my school.

Times:

800: 2:13
1600(mile): 4:54
3200(2 mile): 10:35
5000(~3.1 miles): 17:30

We should get a leader board going again.

Ohmygosh it's under_pressure! How ya been? Maybe a leaderboard is now in order. :)

Also, my last two races in my high-school career are coming up Friday and Saturday. No pressure.

A 17-minute guy? Nice. We just had a Cross-Country team meeting for our school to discuss summer plans; the team is getting ready to begin summer running. This is my first season, so I'm still getting in shape, but my best 5K time is 22 minutes.

Haven't ran it for about a year for time, however I run the mile in about 6:05, and the 100 in about 12.8 .

When I'm running 3 miles, one of those miles is around 7 minutes. I don't time them very exactly. We have a great running place around where I live that I can run at every week.

Yo, Pheidi! I've been alright, and you? I remember you were one of the top runners on the forums.
I've just started training for the upcoming cross country season, as a matter of fact. Exciting stuff.

Good luck in your races! Hopefully you'll tell us all how they go.

Good to hear you've been well, and thanks for the support. After this weekend, I'm feeling pretty good myself. And because you asked...

[monologue]

The meet was a little wacky with thunderstorms and things, and so my Friday-night race got postponed to Saturday morning. It was a 1600. I'd been trying to break 4:40 since the winter and had come pretty close a few times (I ran 4:40.3 once. x_X), but I hadn't gone under the barrier yet. I like the 1600 so much more than the 3200, so I was really focusing on this race as my "last race," even though I was supposed to run again later. As it turns out, I finally had the breakthrough I was looking for. I won my heat (the middle of three) in 4:34. Splits were 66hi, 70lo, 70hi, 66lo. It was one of the best races of my life, if not the best - certainly the way I wanted to end my high-school running career. I had plenty of tme to rest before the 3200, but I was still feeling pretty wiped from the 1600 effort come race-time, so my coach allowed me to miss it and end my career on that mile. It was an awesome day.

[/monologue]

And now that track is over, I'm in the same boat as you. Cross country is just around the corner. Definitely exciting. I'm looking forward to it.

Good luck with your training. :D

Wow! That's fantastic, congratulations! Way to come back strong after a 66, 70, 70 split. That's amazing. Interestingly enough, I have a lot of trouble dealing with hot, sunny weather - weather that most other people usually like. I do well in the miserable cold, rain, and wind (or any combination of the three) ;).

[I guess I'll do a little monologue myself...]

Personally, I'm a long distance guy. I like the mile, but my real track race is the 3200, although I must say that I'm a cross country guy at heart.
This year was a tough one. Unfortunately, our usual distance coach couldn't coach this year because of personal reasons, and so we were essentially left without a coach. Our head coach tried his best to train us, but he really focuses on the sprinters so he was kind of at a loss as to what kind of workouts to give us. I capped out at around 10:35 but I was certainly happy because I was consistently able to be around that time.
I went to Regionals this year for CC and it was just an incredible experience. This upcoming year will be my senior year, though, so I'm really shooting to make it to the state meet.

[end boring crap about myself that no one cares about =P]

Good luck to you in your training as well! Perhaps we could also create a training log thread; MetaNet could go for a 1000 mile total goal kind of thing I've seen on some other running forums!

Hey, thanks. :)

And I love racing in rainy weather! Oh, man. We had the county 3200 a year ago on a cool evening, under the lights and in a slight mist. What an atmosphere! Definitely an experience I'd like to repeat. I guess that's the cross country in me too. Actually, for the first two to three weeks of this spring season, it got cold and rainy /just/ for meet days. If we had a meet Tuesday, Monday and Wednesday would be beautiful, but all bets were off on Tuesday. You'd have had a field day. ;)

The weather yesterday was pretty nice. A bit sunny and warm, but we ran early enough in the morning (somewhere between 10:30 and 11:00) that it was still okay for running.

That's a shame about your coach. Good to see you were able to work through it, though. If I remember the old leaderboards correctly, 10:35 is a personal best for you, no? And consistency is certainly better than I could manage in the 3200 this season; I was /all/ over the place. I'm sure you'll see some big improvements as you rally into your senior year. The culmination and finality of it all can be a great motivator. Plus, you'll be another year older, stronger, and smarter. That always helps. Most importantly, though, just keep enjoying it. That's what it's all about, right?

A 1000-mile-esque thread would be cool for the summer. We should see if we can find Hendor and get those leaderboards back up, too. What running forums are you on, by the way? I'm a DyeStat-er myself. I don't post much, but I peruse a good bit.

Man, I need to slow down on the tower-posting. o,O

Edit: Double-checked the old-forum thread, and 10:35 is a big PR for you according to the old leaderboard. So are the other times you mentioned. Very nice work. ;)

Double-Edit: Haha, I already mentioned that county 3200 in an old-forum post.

Oh, yeah! I'm certainly happy with the times from this season. The 4:54 was much like your 4:34, only on an obviously less impressive scale. I had been hovering around 5:05 all season waiting to break 5 and then on my last mile race I broke it. It was a nice feeling.

I'm not really on any running forums in a technical sense, but I do browse them if something on milesplit or dyestat catches my eye. They're nice, although they don't tell everything since they don't cover local races. My mile PR isn't on milesplit 'cause it was at a dual meet. Shame.

Indeed, summer would be the perfect time to log. Interestingly enough, I've found that in my experience, lower, faster mileage over the summer helps me more, but I'm going to explore longer distances this summer, so I'll have to see.

Whatever did happen to Hendor anyway? I haven't seen him much, but I remember he was right around your times on the old thread. It'd be nice to hear what he's done.

I run like a 19 something 5k, and a 5:32 mile. Think my 400 is like a 1:04, 200 is a 31, and my 100 is like a 12 or 13 :/
I'm not a runner, just a swimmer, but I've run some in P.E.

Someone should make a graph based on speed vs. age of runner. That would be interesting to look at.

My school ran a 100k club this year and I somehow found myself doing it. Basically you did as many laps as you could within about 50 minutes in weekly sessions, each lap being about 2k plus 1k for jogging to the park where we did it and back. I averaged about 7k a week, plus I ran at lunchtime a few times, so it took about 10 weeks. It was all worth it for my microscopic badge saying "100km" :)
I'm not much of a runner though, maybe 100m in 13 seconds on a good day. I haven't got a 5k time, but I average 4k in 18 minutes, so nothing special.

Hi, I'm Techno.

My mile time is somewhere between 7:30 and 8:00, and my 100 m is like 12 seconds. Yes, I know it's complete crap. Running ain't my thing if you catch my drift.

Total resurrection, but there's a new topic of conversation for this thread. I just now got back from District Championships. I believe the post-season is underway for most of the country, too. Anyway, I ran 18:51, which is exciting because I ran 25:30 in the summer and this is my first season. State championships are next weekend; we're going to get to miss the whole day of school.

Nice job, yungerkid! And yeah, postseason is underway for my team as well. I've been injured for all of the regular season, unfortunately, and probably wouldn't have made the top twelve anyway, so no cross country for me this year. I'm all about indoor track right now.
